Staying out on the sandy sagebrush plain looking out to the dunes, miles away, was awesome! Unique environment, clean, well maintained tents, friendly canines in lobby, helpful advice, ability to grill—all great! Thank you!

Great experience
Very nice set up. We stayed in one of the estate tents so we had our own shower and bathroom. Bed was extremely comfy! Wish I would have had another pillow though. Used the camp stove for heat at night and it was great. Didn't need any additional wood. Used our grill for dinner and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast burritos and coffee! Keep in mind it is camping and there were critters and bugs outside, but if you keep you food etc outside, you will not be bothered by them in your tent at night. Was a peaceful night and we were able to get plenty of sleep.

Very friendly and helpful. Bathhouse is not for the faint of heart. Met a variety of people from around the world while making S’mores. We enjoyed “glamping.”

Thanks for staying with us and glad you enjoyed your stay. We're not sure what you mean about the bathrooms though... To future guests - please check out out pictures of our 6 compartment bath house. Each has a sink, flushing toilet and shower with hot water and a locking door. Guests often praise and appreciate how clean we keep them.

Make sure you know if your tent has a toilet. They are the Estates. Bathrooms for toilet-less tents were really great.

Great spot for glamping. No AC, but wood burning stove is great for cold temps. Restrooms ate very convenient & clean. Smores every evening. Great location. Would definitely stay again!

Worst night
This property advertises itself as "all the best things about camping without the mess, allowing you to maintain a high level of comfort and relaxation." There was nothing comfortable or relaxing about this place. First problem was the mosquitoes. Even while standing in line inside the lobby I was getting eaten alive by them. They were even worse in and around our tent. We were promised a wagon to transport our things to our tent, but none were available. The person checking us in just kind of shrugged. Over an hour later we still had no wagon until one of the ladies saw we were being ignored and helped us out. The showers are in a shared portable setup (think fancy port-a-potty buildings). There is no hot water. The shower gives you about 20 seconds of ice cold water before turning off automatically. There is a wood burning stove inside the tent and they provide firewood and a single starter. However it wasn't nearly enough. We ran out of wood halfway through the night with temps in the 40s. Smoke from the smoldering remains infiltrated our tent to the point we had to leave the tent for our own health. We had a separate kids tent, but it has no heat and was therefore unusable on what turned out to be a very cold night. There is no fence, wild animals were howling nearby at night. We had booked for 2 nights but left after the first night, so we ended up spending over $700 for one night in a cold bug-infested tent.

Hello Douglas, sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Glamping is not for everyone - but it's a big upgrade from regular tent camping if you have ever been. The mosquitoes all around Colorado were much worse than usual due to extra rain - they have since tapered off and are no longer a bother. Bug spray and long sleeves/light weight pants helps though when they are bad. We're sorry we ran out of wagons when you arrived - we just had a lot of people arrive at the same time. All the tents are just a short walk from the parking lot though...We were having problems with the bath house on demand hot water heater in 2 of our 6 bathroom compartments - we've since fixed the problem. We're not sure what you mean when you compare them to a "fancy port-a-potty" We've never seen any port-a-potty with running water, flush toilets, and showers all connected to a septic system. To future guests - please see pictures of our bath house - most people think it's really nice and we work hard to keep it very clean. We suggest when the evenings are cold in the early/late glamping season for guests to wear warm layers to bed, and perhaps even a winter hat to help stay warm. We typically don't hear of guests being cold at night when they do this. We also specify that we only provide 1 bundle of wood per night and that additional wood is available for purchase in the lobby. We also have instructions on how to light the camp stove - typically they do not smoke when those instructions are followed. Our base rates on our homestead king tents are 160/nt, but other more expensive tents are also available, and extra person costs over 2 people do apply. Again - we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Our tent was attractive, but it was FREEZING overnight. They can’t furnish a tent like a hotel room (ie sheet lightweight comforter) and expect guests to be comfortable when the temp drops into the 30s overnight (in June). They need piles of blankets in there. Comfy mattress, but I was too cold to sleep much.

Response from Camp Host on 22 Jun 2023
Hello Jennifer, sorry you were cold. We do have a packing suggestion list for cold nights and recommend people sleep in warm clothes like sweat pants/shirts and warm socks and a stocking cap... This June has been unseasonably cold... We also suggest using the camp stove to keep you warm at night - they heat up the tent very nicely - one bundle of wood is included and additional is available to purchase. We have found that guests that pack warm clothes to sleep in do well in the tents even in the colder weather, but if that's not your thing we suggest a August visit as even in august it gets down to upper 60s and lower 70s at night.

Accommodations were fabulous. We loved it. Our host Mike was awesome. Very knowledgeable of the area and eager to answer our questions and what he did not know immediately he found out for us. Wonderful place for a unique trip! Our family stayed in one of the tents with attached bath. The weather was chilly, but the in-tent stove kept us warm at night. All of the staff were wonderful and we enjoyed chatting with them and other visitors during breakfast and over S'mores at the nightly campfire.

Breathtaking scenery and a fun place to stay
Lovely place near GSDNP! Had a tent for the kids and a second for us. Super clean and the scenery was beautiful. They put a lot of thought into the setup of the facility and even gave us USB chargers for phones and a little fan. Restrooms were very clean with showers. The thunderstorm in the evening as well as the sunrise over the dunes were gorgeous. Hosts were super-friendly. We can’t wait to come back next year!

Unique experience. Amazing views and great company. We stopped at the store and grabbed our own stuff to grill, but they do sell grill packs if you order ahead. Lots to do: corn hole, horseshoes, volleyball, sand box and toys for kids, even a fenced in area for your dog to play. Campfire and s’mores at night gives you a chance to mingle to tell travel Stories. Breakfast burritos in the morning were AMAZING!

This is a charming resort with great touches and amenities. Beautiful views, comfortable “tents” showers were clean . Breakfast is good and I was surprised how many other services they offer like sled rentals, barbecue packages etc..I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is a reluctant camper but wants to experience the rugged just a bit more.

Very unique experience staying at Rustic Rook Resort. Clean, friendly and very well set up. Loved the grilling and s’more option. The tents are spacious and the permanent floor with front deck is great. The gentleman in charge of the campfire worked very hard at it and put off eating his supper to make sure we had a nice fire. We had a great experience with our stay.

It’s Glamping! Expensive, but different.
It’s glamping. If you’re into that, and understanding that’s what it is, it was good. But set your expectations accordingly. It’s windy (noisy and dusty). All the info is on their website and is accurate. Kind of absurd the cost per night when the amenities are less than a roadside motel, but good for them that they can get us to pay it. Service was alright — friendly but in an obligatory way. We were required to sign a lengthy waiver at check in that caught me off guard — essentially that this is a risky activity and we are participating at our own risk, hold them harmless, etc. No amenities, no risk, very basic accommodations— talk about margins! Pros: gorgeous stars, comfy beds, a fun one-time experience, cute front porches, meet other guests around the campfire, the only option near the sand dunes. Cons: you’re in the middle of a dusty, windy dessert; shared bathrooms get busy with long waits at times; and in hindsight I can’t believe the cost for glamping!

Hello Anonymous, Sorry we did not meet your expeditions, but thank you for acknowledging the accuracy of our website. We do our best to be 100% transparent so that people know what to expect upon arrival. Sounds like perhaps you visited during a windy night - this is not always the case - but it happens.... weather.. Yes - we require every guest to sign a waiver, it's sent out right after each guest books a tent for their review before arrival. Hotels and all other glamping establishments that we know of all require guests to sign a waiver. We offer exactly the amentias we say we do on our website - breakfast in the morning, s'mores by the campfire at night, fire wood and fire starting materials, towels, bath products, lanterns, phone chargers etc. That seems to be somewhat the industry standard for remote glampgrounds. We are unsure what you mean by "no amenities"... Our pricing is in-line with - or under that of our competitors. A lot more goes into running a glampground than meets the eye. It may seem like a low overhead business but there is a reason why other glampgrounds charge as much as we do or more. Glad you did find some things you enjoyed. Glamping is a one and done for some people, and a multiple trips per year for others - it just depends on the person...

The property is lovely. The views are amazing. The tent was nice and clean and comfortable. A glaring drawback is there are approximately 25 tents plus some tents have adjoining TP’s to accommodate more people. Meanwhile there are 4, yes, a total of 4 toilets on the property. Which are also where the showers are located, so they can be occupied for quite some time. This should be fixed. Other than that and other guests who cannot grasp that their voices carry, it’s a lovely place and quite comfortable.
