"The Horton Grand, although historic and located in a great location, shows signs of needing work. Carpet is worn and doors do not fit well (bathroom door would not close.) We stayed in a "balcony" suite. The balcony was barely large enough to stand on, so not much of a perk. The windows and exterior door are not well sealed, so street noise (cars and people) was very loud, to the point of needing earplugs to sleep. There was a deal on the room price, which was why we chose to stay there, but it was balanced out by the $62 per night valet charge."

"We ended up at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown because the first hotel we booked was not a good fit for us. Owen (desk clerk) and the other staff were friendly , helpful, and accommodating to our need to have early check in. Owen helped us store our luggage until he was able to get us a room. He also called me when the room was ready. The staff left water and snacks with a sweet note outside our room. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was filling. A 10 out of 10!!! We are looking forward to our next visit to San Diego and will definitely stay at the HIE again."

"room was clean bathroom also soaps provided dispensers clean. water temp and pressure was off but not enough to complain (at that time) parking was convent and safe (gated) but very small spaces. breakfast was simple but good. staff was friendly and helpful. was in walking distance (3 blocks) from the main part of little Italy. i reccommend and will be back"
