Mom n Pop place, so don't expect the Hilton feel
It's a mom n pop place, so you can't expect the Hilton feel from it. It needs much updating. The room could have been cleaned better (a tiny bit of dust on the headboards, back of the toilet was not cleaned, old soap left in shower, corners of bathroom needed a scrubbing). Would be nice to have more then 2 pillows on the bed and 2 body towels in the rack. The "deadbolt" wouldn't lock from the inside, but you couldn't get in with out a key. The selection for "breakfast" was very basic but wasn't bad, BUT the taste of the food horrible (tasted like the bottom of the barrel of the generic brands). But, none if those things were major issues. The owner was very kind. We didn't see any bugs, and the room was warm. We didn't have an issues. The pics are accurate, and got what we expected. It was a good/very basic stay for what it was.
They did not honor the reservation because they were overbooked. Fortunately for us! One of our friends staying had the Oakdale had bedbugs in their room!
It was quiet. Staff very polite. Rooms clean and tighty beds comfortable. Good location easy to get everywhere in town.

Lots of noise during our first night. Bathroom door did not fit opening so it could not be closed fully. Other than that, it was sufficient for what we paid.
This is an older business in need of some TLC. Bath door didn't shut correctly, shower control just spun until you could figure out temp control. Needed a good clean. Host was happy and congenial
First room assigned still dirty. Next room blood on sheets, bathroom lsmp shade on floor and thick dust on everything. Did not stay. Left and went to another motel. No call or anything from management.
Oakdale is a motel - park in front of your room door. Surrounding area is commerical/residential mix - very safe. Nearby is a nice Hyvee grocery. My room had a good number of light fixtures. I enjoy a well-lit room. The furnishings were very nice for this level motel - Marble sink top. Honey pine dresser and table in excellent condition. New carpet. Internet router on the table in my room allowed me CAT-5 connection to internet - good bandwidth. Flat screen tv with 100 or so channels. Proprietor gave me a room upgrade to two queen bed room where my reservation was for one. There is a free continental breakfast. Pretty small, but as good for me as most chain hotels - Raisin Bran cereal and a banana is all I'd usually appreciate from those as well. Not a stay-to-impress, but at half the price of a large chain motel - an excellent value.
Breakfast is included, but it isn't very appetizing. I chose it because it is a short walk to the HyVee so if a Minnesota Blizzard descended upon me, I'd still have access to booze and other necessities. Heat is via a boiler but I cannot be sure you can change the temperature. I didn't freeze. They take your payment in advance. We checked out early and there was a question about whether or not we were going to get a refund until I called Hotels.com.
The bed was "good enough". The TV was basic satellite, when was the last time you saw something you wanted to watch on satellite TV?
Free Wi-Fi was strong enough to download a show.
It was less than 1/2 the price of the AmericInn.
There are several food places within a couple of blocks.
I was greeted on check in with, "You shouldn't have been able to reserve a room" because there was a convention in town, but I was allowed to stay in the end. Breakfast consisted of old fruit, cereal, and pastries. I tried a banana, but it was so bruised, I had to throw it away. It's a motel and cheaper than the other hotels in town, so I did not expect a lot, but a toasted bagel sure would have been nice.
With the road construction, it was a bit difficult to find. Signage was terrible and I was on top of the driveway before I saw the entrance. I pulled up into an empty parking lot and thought it was closed. This is a motel, not a hotel and is also rented by the week or month. The office looked dark and there was no sign that said open. I went in and waited (no buzzer, or bell) but there was a surveillance camera. A very polite and helpful young man came out, and checked me in. The room was clean but the green velvet drapes and old bedspread were very dated. The carpet and paint seemed fairly new. The door needs weather striping as I could see light all the way around, and the A/C was very loud. I could every word of conversation from the room next to me. There was nobody in the morning to check me out so I just left my key on the counter and left. It served the purpose, but next trip I will stay further up the road.
Great service clean room great value.
If I'm staying in Owatonna I will stay there again.

Dated and rough but habitable for a night or two
It's OK for a night or maybe 2. Location is good for proximity to south Owatonna and Hwy 14. The most important things were fine - hot water, toilet and drains all worked. Bathroom and sink surfaces were clean, but the rest of the room had a lot of dust. And housekeeping didn't check behind the bathroom door, missing dirty towels. The room otherwise was dated and rough around the edges, but certainly habitable.

Good enough
It's a place to crash for the night. I don't recommend a family stay though.
