"We booked an ocean-facing room with balcony for a 3-night stay, and arrived at check-in around 5pm. We were given a room equipped for people with disabilities and/or a wheelchair. When I promptly asked if we could have a different room for our romantic getaway, I was told that ALL ocean-facing rooms were handicap accessible rooms. On one hand, we thought that was great and very inclusive, HOWEVER, when I then walked our floor to see how many other rooms had the handicap badge by the room card reader, I found this not to be true at all. I saw only one other.
We are as flexible as they come, but do not like dishonesty. We didnt go back and complain. We accepted it because we were late for dinner … but fair warning when booking, the room you reserve may not be the one you get. Add to that a few issues with the bathroom (loose toilet handle & TP holder, empty shampoo bottle in the shower) and a very basic room overall, and you quickly realize you’re paying island prices and for the location near the beach.
We will look elsewhere the next time we visit Amelia Island.
Three stars; just ok; and expensive for what it is."
