We had an overall great stay at this hotel. The customer service was truly excellent — the staff was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. However, there were a couple of issues during our stay. The building uses a solar water heating system instead of gas, and unfortunately there was no hot water for one full day. We weren’t able to shower the night before or the following morning, which was inconvenient. Additionally, the walls are quite thin — when we arrived, a couple next door was arguing and it honestly sounded like they were in the room with us. That said, the staff handled everything professionally and remained amazing throughout. With a few improvements, this place would be outstanding.

I recently stayed at Carlota in Quito, and it was one of those rare experiences where everything simply feels right. The hotel itself is stunningly beautiful—thoughtfully designed, intimate, and full of character—but what truly sets it apart is the people who run it. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely cared for. They’re warm, attentive, and incredibly empathetic in a way that never feels forced. I get felt like family. Whether it was helping with last‑minute logistics, offering thoughtful recommendations, or simply checking in to make sure I was comfortable, they consistently went above and beyond. It’s the kind of hospitality that stays with you. The restaurant deserves its own praise. Every meal was fantastic—fresh, creative, and beautifully prepared. It quickly became one of my favorite places to eat in the city, not just because of the food but because of the atmosphere the team creates. Carlota is the kind of hotel that elevates your entire experience of Quito. I’m leaving with wonderful memories and a lot of gratitude. I would return in a heartbeat.

The hotel is located 3 blocks from the historic plaza of Quito. The area is easy to walk around and many of the sites are within 3 blocks. The room was spacious and had everything I needed. The building is restored and unique. It has a roof terrace, a set aside area to read and enjoy a beverage and the restaurant had excellent food. The rate was very reasonable and the staff is very helpful.

The good: It's beautiful--the outside, the lobby, the rooftop, the other common areas, the room, the bathroom. Everything. The staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is excellent. The bad: The walls are paper thin. Hopefully, it's not everyday that someone comes to Quito to spend their entire day and night talking on the phone, but when they do, you will be privy to those phone calls (both ends) as if you were in the room with them. So, not restful. Also, we only had hot water for the shower one of two mornings.

Would not recommend - all style no substance

Given this is an expensive hotel in Quito we had high expectations. Not only were we disappointed by the size of the room we had with a bathroom that was also way too small for two people, the room itself was tired and did not live up to the boutique style we were expecting. The service also was pretty terrible and resembled something you’d get in a cheap hotel. They charge for absolutely everything and there are no ‘perks’ like you’d expect with a premium hotel. We were there for New Year’s Eve and not even a complementary glass of fizz was provided to mark the occasion. Also if you’re staying in the same room we did you’ll be able to hear the music that is on repeat on the roof terrace Overall there was no real warm feeling to the hotel, it felt cold and soul-less.

This hotel is beautifully designed with cool modern rooms with high ceilings and several cozy public spaces in a turn of the century building. I could live in this hotel. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. We visited during a difficult time politically so it was great that the staff was extra accommodating. The hotel breakfasts and menu are delicious and the rooftop bar has great views over the historic district. The staff also upgraded us to a suite since the hotel wasn’t full and that was much appreciated and made everything extra comfortable. Thank you!

Great location for people interested in Old Town

Wonderful staff, no faults here. Excellent location as well (if you are interested in sightseeing) that is just a few blocks away from the Plaza Grande, where you have the presidential palace, the cathedral, etc. We booked a room with a city view / balcony, which I don’t really think is worth the extra cost since the hotel is in front of a market / Western Union outlet. Based on what we have heard from locals, the historical center has a lot of pickpockets so just a word of caution about walking around at night.

The staff were wonderful. The hotel was clean and the rooms were nice. Easy walk to Plaza Grande and the sights of Old Town. I definitely recommend.

The location of this hotel is great. Walkable distance to the historic center and it’s attractions. The only downside was that it seemed as if we were the only guests at the time so the hotel staff was slightly slow. Also, most of the staff only speaks Spanish.
