Ramkhamhaeng Guide
One of the largest neighbourhoods in suburban Bangkok, Ramkhamhaeng is often overlooked by travellers, since it sits about 25kms from the heart of the capital. It is a busy district, thanks to the enormous university and shopping malls in Hua Mak and Bang Kapi. As the neighbourhood stretches towards the east, housing communities dominate the landscape, but there are several entertaining landmarks found out here too.
Don’t MissRamkhamhaeng contains a wide variety of landmarks which will not disappoint tourists, despite being in the outer districts of Bangkok.
Not far from Ramkhamhaeng Road rest several amusement parks that tourists will adore. Siam Park is both an amusement park and water park, offering visitors the best of both. Just a few minutes’ drive from here is the more established Safari World, which takes visitors on a journey through African, European and Asian habitats. Dozens of interesting species are found here.
In addition to amusement parks, Ramkhamhaeng also provides visitors with several indoor entertainment options. The Mall Bang Kapi boasts a cinema that shows the latest in popular movies, while other nearby malls offer activities like ten-pin bowling and ice-skating. Children can stay amused for the entire day in Ramkhamhaeng.
Strolling through Ramkhamhaeng University and the adjacent grounds of the Sports Authority of Thailand is a great way to see royal-inspired pavilions and other important structures. There is plenty of basketball, jogging, badminton and more as the sun goes down over the Sports Authority.
Restaurants and BarsRestaurants are situated throughout much of the neighbourhood, especially local street-food options like ba mee noodles and simple rice dishes. Plenty of internationally-inspired restaurants are available in shopping landmarks like The Mall Bang Kapi, Pure Place and Fashion Island. Ramkhamhaeng isn’t overly renowned for its night life. However, there are a few drinking establishments in the Hua Mak area, along the main road.
ShoppingThe Ramkhamhaeng Night Market is the best place to find a great bargain on just about everything, every night of the week. It rests within the Hua Mak district, opposite the university. On Saturday mornings, Sammakorn Market is another spot that is ideal for bargain-hunting. The Mall Bang Kapi and Fashion Island are the largest department stores in the neighbourhood, offering international fashion brands and local retailers.
