"Clean basic upgraded motel. Decent size, fair price, micro, fridge, and parking a plus. Downsides: front desk staff are brusque rather than friendly (not a big deal); pillows pretty tough; not noise insulated, so you hear other guests in hallway. This can be hard if you are a light sleeper. I’d stay here again if I brought ear plugs, a nice pillow, and a big “QUIET”sign to tape to the door."

"One of the benefits of historic boutique hotels is that they have character, and an experience that you will not get from a chain. The Stanyan Park Hotel is a perfect example, from the foyer, to the photographs on the walls tracing over a century of history, to the old-world style of the rooms. The staff at the front desk were always pleasant, on the way in or on the way out. It is right across the street from Golden Gate Park and a short walk to restaurants, and a good walk to the University...

The front desk gent (manager? owner?) is a total class act - very much cares for his guests, looks after them - a true delight. There are large and small rooms - the small ones overlook the parking area to the rear, and are quieter; the larger ones overlook Judah St and the street cars/MUNI - we personally love its sounds: shades of Manhattan. We've stayed at a couple other nearby places - but the Ocean Inn is by far...

"Excellent location with Los Alamos Park, Painted Ladies, Golden Gate Park and great restaurants a short stroll away. Staff great, very safe and friendly vibe. Room was very tiny so if you are wanting to work remotely, there is no desk. Definitely would stay here again! "
