Meeting up with lots of my relatives was great. Yes, the room was clean, but the kettle was not working for my early morning cup of tea (I didn't use it the previous evening)! The staff were efficient, sympathetic and friendly, but were unable to get a replacement kettle to me. Also, when I booked, I did say that I needed a gluten-free diet but the biscuits in the room were not gluten-free! I consider that the cost for one night's stay was expensive, being the full price for two people in a double room. I was by myself and I feel that there should have been some reduction for single usage. (I should have asked for a second breakfast to take home with me!) If there is another family get-together in the future, in view of all the above, I will not book into The Playden Oasts Inn, unless, of course, it is at a much fairer price and/or I receive some compensation for my loss. Road trip

Very old building, we stayed in the round room. Spacious, comfy bed and lovely and cool if you have the door and window open (we were in a heatwave!! ) fan provided too. Shower was a real let down, took forever to run through, had no umph whatsover. The whole bathroom was quite "tired" and could do with a bit of work done to it. The restaurant food was ok, but i can recommend the fish cafe in Rye, very nice! Mixed reviews on breakfast, the cooked breakfast i had was a little on the crispy side, my husband ordered scrambled eggs and mushrooms and was told as it was brought out that there was no mushrooms. No offer of a replacement! Also good to note that it is at the top of a long steep hill, that goes into rye. Ok if youre driving, but if you have mobility issues, definatley going to be an issue.

Worth a stay

Everything about our stay could not be faulted. Friendly reception on arrival. Told all we needed to know straight away and made to feel very welcome. Separate restaurants as we had our dogs with us and we were the only ones in ours but still were treated very attentively. Good varied menu with several specials on offer. Prices are reasonable and on par with others offering a similar service. Breakfast was a limited offering but still very good. The character of the hotel is everything. It is an ultimately an old farm building after all and it is everything you would hope for. Modern where it needs to be but still retaining its heritage.

It’s different!

The main building of the hotel is made up of 2 Oast houses so on first impressions it’s easy to get excited. Unfortunately that’s where the positives really end. The bar and restaurant are located in the Oast houses and are tired and in need of modernisation. The accommodation block looks as if it was built in the sixties and very little has changed or been done since then. The room was basic yet clean and comfortable although it’s difficult to understand the shower in a cupboard. The food on offer was very much pub food and I would question how much was freshly produced on site. However the little restaurant was busy. It’s very difficult to fault the Playden Oasts, it’s just all in need of being modernised and the silk flowers and other accoutrements removed.

Awful.

The hotel was awful. Everything was old dusty and tatty. Was like some out of the 70’s. I was charged a lot for the room and given the amount this is the worst hotel experience I have had. Mouldy smell, barely there shower. Just terrible. Avoid.

Lovely place to stay if you want something different, very oldie worldie , bar and restaurant quaint and cosy. Had a really delicious and well presented evening meal.

Great stay.

Really lovely stay in this quiet little Oast House. We stayed in a round room, beautifully decorated with ensuite shower room. Tea and coffee and biscuits, TV in room. Plenty of drawers and cupboard space for clothes. Room clean and tidy. Breakfast was lovely, and everyone was so friendly. We also had an excellent roast dinner on the Sunday. Just a short walk into Rye, which was a bonus. Would totally recommend it, and we hope to stay there again.

Weekday stay.

Very friendly welcome by Kim and all the staff. Food was excellent, but the bathroom needed updating. The shower water pressure was bad and shower head needed replacing. House keeping only cleaned our cups and did not make up the room.

Seem to have done this before. Friendly staff good room in the oast not too keen on the bath in the bedroom, difficult to get in and out needs hand rail also needs a towel rail as there is no where to dry towels
