I chose to stay at the Fairmont for sentimental and historical reasons, knowing full well the property may be worn and tired. We paid in full for our package at the time of booking through Expedia. We arrived mid morning of our check-in date and were told our room would be ready in a couple hours. At 4:00 pm we were handed waters and told to be patient along with several other travelers while staff worked to accommodate all of us. One manager told us they would need to move us to another hotel (of lesser value) for one night due to maintenance issues with several of the rooms because it was unsafe for us to stay. In actuality...another staff member told us and several others, the hotel was overbooked for a large tech convention. Several hours later and after some reasonable negotiation for a stay at a more comparable hotel, we were able to begin our vacation but subsequetially needed to move back to the Fairmont on their terms. What was concerning was the misinformation if not outright lie fed to us along with the disruption that ruined a full day of
our vacation and inconvenienced us again in the middle of activities to relocate. At the end of the day, while a 120.00 breakfast voucher and corner room were nice...they were not compensation enough for me to recommend taking a chance on staying there on a future visit.
