Spectacular on all counts. Set amidst breathtaking, steep vineyards, the beautifully maintained Quinta is an essence of peace and elegance. The property is a complex of solid stone buildings with tasteful architecture, nestled at the bottom of the valley in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Every detail, big and small, is thoughtfully cared for. The atmosphere is perfectly peaceful and green, with only the songs of birds waking you in the morning. The host at reception was fantastically welcoming. My room was large and impressively tall, with a comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. I needed to leave at 7 a.m. on a Sunday, and the host kindly offered to prepare breakfast earlier than the usual 8:30 a.m. start. But the most unique aspect of the Quinta is the feeling it gives you: as though you've been transported to another world—a family vineyard residence, secluded and surrounded by vines, at the bottom of the valley, with no other buildings or people in sight. Remember there are two access roads to Quinta. The one heading from south to north is very steep - not recommended if you are on a motorcycle. However the other access, from north to south - is perfectly accessible.

Hotel, set in vineyards

This is a beautiful family run hotel, set in vineyards. The grounds are well kept, the pool excellent, and breakfast good. No bar or restaurant. The rooms are vintage but have everything necessary.

Difficile à trouver vu l'isolement. Dommage que le gérant ait essayé de nous "refiler" une chambre standard alors que nous avions réservé la "luxe".

Tranquil location amongst the vines.

Situated in a beautiful valley with stunning views but you will need a car to get here as it is out in the sticks. There was no restaurant on-site (in June) but you can go to the nearest small town to find cooked food or buy from the supermarket and bring it back to eat. There is a small kitchen associated with the room rent which can be used for food preparation. Try the wines made at the property; both red and white are excellent - as was the port which unfortunately was not for sale. There is a very nice pool which Is partially covered and a garden in which to sit in. Buffet breakfast was good and you can either sit inside the dinning room or outside on the terrace overlooking the vines. Recommended.

Un lieu de rêve !

Au milieu des vignes au coeur de la vallée du Douro, l'établissement est très plaisant, calme et propice au repos. Venir avec quelques courses pour ne plus quitter le lieu, une cuisine mise à disposition ainsi qu'une terrasse très agréable permet de profiter véritablement des soirées très agréables. la piscine est superbe ! L'accueil est simple et chaleureux. Très Bon rapport qualité/prix

A gem in the Douro wine region!

We loved everything about the Solar Quinta. John and his Mom were so friendly and gave us such good service and the setting couldn't have been more spectacular. We were sorry that we had to leave. This was our favorite place to stay in over 8 weeks of traveling in Europe. They even cooked dinner for us when we asked for a place to dine, which was wonderful. It also was excellent value! They are doing a marvellous job and we definitely recommend their business and their wine! Even though we had trouble finding the location a person in the little town above to the north ,that we stopped to ask for directions, phoned them and then led us to the road we were to take. In the meantime John was driving up from the valley to meet us! I think it would have been easier to find had we approached from Regau to the south but nonetheless it was more than worth the effort. It is nestled down in a valley so be prepared for a steep winding drive and check out the location ahead of time as we could not get it on our GPS.

Quality Family Run Quintas

We stumbled upon this little oasis and stayed for 3 nights. From the very start João and his Mum made us feel at home. The rooms are super clean and homely, and you can book one with air con. They have an amazing pool, a games room in an outhouse and can cook upon request. Kids would love it as there is lots to do, plus a spa (hot tub). It's also very close to Vila Real (20mins) and Regua (Douro river - 30 mins). The photos are spot on and they whole package is a winning formula. If you are looking for an authentic off the tourist path Quintas then Solar da Portela is for you!!

Sommerferie i Portugal

Hotellet ligger i en dal omgivet af vinmarker. Hotellet har gode faciliteter. Hotellet har egen vinproduktion, hvor der er mulighed for en fremvisning på vingården og prøvesmagning af deres vin og portvin. Området er ideelt til gå - og cykelture. I en lille landsby ca. 5 km fra hotellet er der mulighed for at bade i en flod.

This Agro-turismo winery was perfect for a combo of tourist relaxation and a place to take short trips to the nearby cities of Vila Real, Lamego and Regua by the river Douro, and to get a glimpse of a daily life at a winery. The family was very service minded and had a ease about things that made our stay a nice memory. I would gladly recommended this to any one.

Best part of Douro Valley

Stayed at this wonderful hotel as part of our Portugal trip for two nights and loved every single minute of it. The hosts were very accommodating and it felt like we were staying at a country retreat for a fraction of the price. Highly recommend it.
