We were greeted by Don who was doing some work on the front door. He was very welcoming and offered some tips on parking near Notre Dame since we were there to visit our son who is a student and attend a football game. It felt just like we were coming into someone’s home. Upside: warm & welcoming; Downside: a bit messy & unorganized upon first impression. We arrived at 2:45 for a 3pm check in and Don told us to go ahead that our room was ready but when we opened the door, it was not. Nothing had been done since the previous guests left. This was disappointing as we were hoping for a quick shower and nap before heading to campus. We had just driven for 7 hours. But we were able to store our bags in the room and head back out. All was well when we returned for the night. Overall, it was quiet and clean. We slept well although the bed felt a bit unstable. No amenities to speak of and the bedding was sparse in my opinion. A sheet and thin bedspread. No blanket to be found. Not sure if we’ll stay again, but, again, it is a good location only 3 miles from campus. Very quiet and we felt safe.

Absolutely outstanding! The best BEST place to stay in South Bend. This is our second time on the property. If you are looking for a cozy, kind, and well located spot, look no further! We look forward to coming back when we are in town for our next Notre Dame game. Shout out to Don! Loved our conversations and his warm hospitality.

The owners have 2 houses close together and use the same entry code for both. Then the keys are stashed in each room because there are no personnel onsite. One key was missing and the two people to contact were both busy and pretty unresponsive, although they eventually found the missing key. I felt very unsafe. Then I noticed a lot of street noise. One window does not shut at the top. It was cracked and taped up, and the panes were filthy. One of the worst rental experiences I have had, I won't be back.

Great place

This is a great place to stay in South Bend if you’re on a budget but want something comfortable and homey. The rooms are nice and the historic aspect of the house is great. It is also nice to have a kitchen to use, plus mini fridges in the room.

Excellent stay at the Avanti!

We highly recommend the Avanti for your next stay. It is quiet and very relaxing. The Avanti offers all the amenities necessary to be comfortable while providing a lot of history in every room. We could not have had a better stay! Thank you so much.

The house was quite large and easy to maneuver. No stove but there is a hot plate, microwave, and toaster oven in the kitchen. Not a lot of cookware, bowls, etc. but enough to make due. I like to cook so that was a little disappointing but like I said, it was sufficient to make due. It would be nice if there were a recliner and couch in the living room area to make it more comfy. There is a small love seat and chair. Not a place to sit back and watch tv. My room was lovely. Nice comfy bed and a desk for working at. The full bath was adequate. Really cool stuff around the house if you like the Avanti history. Very clean and owner was very responsive to any requests made. I would definitely plan to stay again. I felt safe during my stay as a single lady.

The theme of the house was very neat with the old car collectibles. Very easy to enter & leave, not too far from downtown. Good for visiting South Bend, I would definitely book again.

Funky but not my thing

Interesting place. Kind of funky and eclectic. I felt like I was staying at my grandmother's house. The floors were creaky and I had a half bath off of my room with a shared full bath. I wasn't crazy about the shared full bath option, my room was kind of interesting and had lots of posters of the Studebaker sky hawk. I was pretty comfortable, but did not have a TV in my room which I kind of missed. Glad I only had one night there.

This home was built in 1890 so it doesn't have a lot of modern amenities, but once you understand you are essentially staying within a "museum" you can only enjoy the ambiance, artwork, furniture, items and artifacts virtually everywhere. And the owner, Don, has a pristine Avanti car in his garage that he is very proud of and willing to show you! I would most definitely return!
