"The gentleman that owns this hotel is lovely, helpful and accommodating but the property and rooms are dated and basic."

"The staff were amazing! The basement room we stayed in needed a complete overhaul. The furniture was from the 70’s as was the hair dryer attached to the bathroom wall. Although the bed was very comfortable! We were directly below the check in desk so when anyone arrived or left you could hear loud footsteps on the wooden floor above. Complimentary tea, coffee, shower gel were limited to one bag/ sachet per person. There was no shampoo or conditioner. Breakfast was fine but small. Off street parking was useful. The garden was large but full of rubbish. Overall a little disappointed for the price we paid. The hotel seemed to be skimping on the basics."

"The description says 'secure, on-site parking'. This is a lie. When asking the caretaker of the property, she looked confused, said there is no parking included, but that we could park on the street if we could find a bay. There is a multi-story that you can pay to park in a short walk away. So don't expect secure on site parking. Otherwise, standard issue guest house - thin walls, thin mattresses and run down, but clean and cheap. The code to get back in didnt work which was a pain. The caretaker was lovely."

"Paid for a sea view. Did get one but on bottom floor, so really could only see cars parked outside. No hot water in sink, only in shower"

"Bath plug hole had hair in it , screen door across bath had mould and dirt in seal around bottom . Draw in bedside cupboard had hair and bits of debris in .pluf in extension was on top of table next to hot water maker (safety issue) lady (never knew her name ) was lovely. Breakfast was ok . Would not recommend this place "

"Staying at St Benedict's is an exceptional experience. Astonishing period decoration takes you to a different era. Well located, excellent breakfast, the bathroom was period too (no shower in ours) - but worth the compromise. So much to look at and enjoy, magical, and a fascinating garden. A worthwhile mini-adventure."
