  • The Church of Santa Lucia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, is located on the hill of the same name in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church was built on the site of a small medieval chapel, known as a pilgrimage site for people with eye diseases. The construction of the temple lasted from 1904 to 1959. The eclectic-style Miguel Ventura Terra project combines neo-romanticism, neo-Gothic and Byzantine architecture. It is generally accepted that the architect was inspired by the forms of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. To the foot of the church at a height of 195 meters above sea level there is a line of a funicular built in 1923. Tourists can take the elevator to the observation deck under the very dome of the church. A panoramic view of the Lima River valley, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean opens from the platform. In 1927, National Geographic magazine named this species the third most beautiful in the world.

El sitio ideal para el descanso, la zona de jardin y piscina estan muy cuidados y preciosos. Los desayunos y la atención del dueño son excelentes. Sin duda un sitio para repetir.

Charmosa guest house adaptada de uma antiga casa de campo, com ótimo custo-benefício. Fica situada um pouco fora do centro histórico de Viana do Castelo, mas pode-se estacionar o carro nas proximidades. Sem carro fica um pouco complicado. Excelente atendimento do pessoal de apoio. O que deixa muito a desejar são as condições do banheiro. Um entupimento na área de banho não foi resolvido durante nossa estadia.

Old Charm

We enjoyed our stay here it was very different which gave it a lot of charm. Located opposite a large supermarket which was a positive as it had basic cooking facilities. Breakfast was very good. The grounds were beautiful and the walk into the centre of town was probably about 2 kms but an easy and picturesque walk. Just a few cons - no signs for reception so we ended up knocking on the door of the private residence, we booked a double bed but had twin beds, it was very hot in the room and even though there was an electric jug there was only 1 teabag and 3 sachets if sugar! Hard to make a coffee!! Overall I would certainly recommend staying there.

Relaxing experience

Lovely welcome, relaxing stay! Great advice on best local beaches! Only downsides were the very small shower, bit mouldy around it too....and the sprinkler system outside our bedroom door caused broken sleep as it went on at 2:30 am and 7:00am!

Mooi oud landgoed

Mooi oud landhuis. Kamers zijn wat klein maar wel comfortabel. Vriendelijke ontvangst en een goed ontbijt. Toegangspoort is wat smal alsmede het pad naar achteren voor het parkeerterrein is niet al te breed. Met een wat grote auto zal het moeilijk draaien zijn.

Hôtel de charme, acceuil sympa, bel demeure avec du caractère. La personne du petit déjeuner est très sympathique. Le petit déjeuner est formidable le meilleur de tout le séjour. Hôtel à 1.5 km du cenre et il faut prendre le taxi pr rentrer. Et aussi hôtel très malmené indiqué.

Met google maps goed te vinden, maar wanneer je dan aan de voorkant van het huis staat, weet je niet waar je naar toe moet om in te checken. Leuke kamers. Het centrum was voor ons op loopafstand. Langs de rivier zijn verschillende strandjes.

古民家の素敵な空間

部屋や朝食、施設などどれも素敵で、心地良い空間が用意されているお宿。 ただ！徒歩で電車駅から到着するのは、遠かったです。 10〜15分程度との事ですが確かに町の端にはそれくらいで着けるかな、という感じ。 車移動の方におすすめのお宿です。 公共交通機関があったのであれば(バス停を見かけたので)、案内頂ければよかったと思いました。 でも全体的に満足しています。 部屋にコートなど服を掛けれるハンガーがあるとなお良し、です。

Great Compound on outskirts Viana

Beautiful house on the outskirts of Viana da Castello. Nice ambiance, great garden and a warm, helpful and friendly staff. Unfortunately the distance to the city is quite far, and the surroundings of the compound outside the compounds walls not that nice. A lot of new buildings, a busy road and a big suoermarket are located next door.. However the great breakfast and the superb accomodation with swimming popl & flower gardens make up for everything :-))

un endroit splendide

à l'arrière d'une demeure seigneuriale élégante et au sein d'un jardin merveilleux ont été érigées des bâtisses neuves et soignées pour y accueillir les hôtes ce que la maitresse des lieux fait parfaitement, les installations permettent à ceux qui le souhaitent de préparer leur repas et une belle piscine agrémente le tout. Les chambres sont toutefois un peu exiguës et il peut y faire vraiment chaud en raison d'un système de ventilation peu efficace mais l'endroit reste superbe

Lg Guest House & grounds close to historic center

Casa do Ameal is a large guest house with wonderful gardens and grounds and pool. Staff are excellent and Isabel, the guest house manager, is a lovely and very helpful lady who went out of her way to make our stay as pleasant and enjoyable as she could. Breakfast was very good and served in a delightful room. The guest house is close to the historic center and easy access to the major highways to Porto, Braga etc and major shopping. The only negative was our expectations of our room. I believed I had booked a suite with a bedroom and sitting area. What I ended up with was a small room with a double bed and an en suite bathroom. Not sure where the communications went wrong. That said, Isabel immediately realized our disappointment, and since no other rooms were available, very kindly made arrangements so that we would have access to a part of the guest house which was not normally available to other guest. For that we were very appreciative.

Très bel endroit

Très joli endroit avec beaucoup de charmes et de qualité. Petit déjeuner de grande qualité. Néanmoins, le quartier n'est pas du tout intéressant.

Charme og personlighed

Et familiedrevet hotel med stor hjertevarme. Man følte sig godt tilpas i de fantastiske omgivelser haven var med til at skabe. Værelserne var rene med friske blomster og autentisk portugisisk stil.Servicen og entusiasmen fra familien var åben og over al forventning. Stedet havde en rigtig god historie og der blev taget hånd om stedet.

Home from home

This is a family run hotel and gives you the feeling you are a guest in the owners home. The owner and her staff are incredibly kind and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast is very good although there is no other restaurant facility. Casa do Ameal is close to local shops and restaurants and the owner is happy to recommend various to try.

A ne pas rater!!

Très très bon accueil, dans un très beau cadre. Elle a passé prés d'une heure à nous présenter la demeure, la chambre et toutes les bonnes adresses de la ville. Prévoyez 4/5 jours minimum pour tout voir sinon vous partirez comme nous, après trois jours, avec le sentiment d'un séjour inachevé...
