The photos are great but you just can't relay the sounds, peace, serenity, solitude and calming sense that is actually experienced here. That was our experience. Every night, we enjoyed the private outdoor shower and hot tub. Hearing the rain gently tap as we soaked and the lighting was perfect. A couple nights under the Super Moon...I can't describe it, you just have to be there...as a couple, I definitely recommend this as a couple. This is not the place we want to bring our friends or kids, no, no, this is just for us! Inside the cottage, a note and little gifts like homemade banana bread and muffins. A stocked kitchen, coolers, rain gear, a backpack, towel warmers, spa robes (used daily), tons of shampoo/conditioner, conveniently placed outlets, 4 wine bottle openers, lol. Many more amenities were provided but check before going to the grocery store; there was more stocked than I expected. Off of the property, we explored daily. Every night, we stopped to look at the Kilauea crater on our way home because the the boiling lava level changed every time and it glowed (bring the binoculars from the cottage). The cottage provides helpful information about things to do and where to eat so I will only mention what wasn't in there. The Tuk Tuk Thai food truck - delicious and authentic, only a few minutes away from the cottage. Uncles Awa Bar and Farmers Market on Wednesday from 5-10pm - a variety of ethnic foods cooked onsite, local art and food items, live music. That was the best food we ate all week. We biked 4 miles to see the lava enter the ocean and biked against strong wind 4 miles back. We worked off the calories that we later put on at Uncles. Our favorite trip was to Waipi'o Valley with Ride the Rim - an atv tour that incorporates Hawaiian culture and history. There's more to say, but this will do for now. We can't wait to go back and call the Volcano Mist Cottage home again :) Mahalo for this exquisite experience.
