A fabulous location overlooking the cliffs. The majority of the hotel has been modernised, with a luxuriant feel that includes an excellent bar. There are some stairwells and corridors that are yet to catch up that feel very tired and a little shabby in places, but it looked like work was in hand to sort this out. There is very limited parking to book and a small overflow that gives reasonable rates, but you'd need to arrive early to get a space. We opted for a non-sea view room and it was nicely decorated with a huge, comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The staff were superb in all areas, as was the breakfast.

The staff on check-in were very helpful and friendly. Parking was convenient. Our room 204 was large and very comfortable and warm with a fabulous view over the beach and Abbey. Nice breakfast room with an excellent variety and choice of food. Excellent position for reaching town easily. Really enjoyed our short stay.

Nice hotel staff lovely, the room was ok but needs a little updating. Also watch if you park on the road outside like I did oops parking wardens are very keen.

This beautiful listed building is beautiful now into a 2nd year of a 5 year retorvation plan as i am told Our room was changed due to me being diabled Although it was spacious very clean with ensuite facilities it was very awkward to maneuver getting into the room as the door was very narrow and i had to take the foot steps off the wheel chair to swing in from the corridor. Once into the room the ensuite room was uneccesable with the wheelchair as them doors were even smaller . With having only one leg i found it awkard to get into the shower cubicle as it was about 6 inch high to take the waste pipes . I ended up sat on floor to shower . I do understand thing cannot be changed so easily in listed buildings without consent The bar was up to date and buzzing and the food in the restuarant was super good and also very busy .although had to overcome some steps to enter ,it maybe awkward to enter if totaly wheel chair bound for other people .so have some thought dissabled people when planning your eating requirements. Staff couldnt do enough for you in all parts of the hotel ,we had a great nights stay and will be staying again, once i get a little more mobile

This hotel I in the midst of a full renovation. So this review is based purely in the condition of the hotel right now. The hotel location is perfect. Right on the West Cliff overlooking the sea, whale bones and abbey. The new hotel bar is exceptional. The rooms are perfectly adequate for a short stay. They do need a refurb and that is happening as we speak. I have to say though, that the prices seem to reflect that. They are not charging 5 star prices. The staff throughout the hotel are always great. I stay here every year and will continue to do so.

Hotel is looking fabulous, what a makeover it’s had. Can still smell the fresh paint upon entering. Had a room on the 2nd floor with a view of the abbey and the water, what a lovely sight to wake up to. Our meal at the fat badger was also excellent. Can’t fault it at all, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

First visit to the Royal Hotel and I’m sure we’ll be back. Great restaurant and bar areas. Had a great time at one of their events. Stayed overnight in a cosy double, clean and everything you need in a room. Might be too small if you are there for a week. Parking behind the hotel at £6 per 24 hours. Good WiFi.

We had a great stay at the Royal Hotel. The room was lovely, great bed, very comfy! Also very quite, On one day the was a wedding reception in the Hotel and we didn't hear a thing! The breakfast was also excellent! With very nice coffee. Well done Royal Hotel Whitby, we cant wait to get back for another stay.

Good internet and absolutely stunning building with lots of interesting nooks and crannies. Taken over recently by The Fat badger company the downstairs public rooms are decorated in a Gothic style with dark colours and hundreds of pictures, endless antique goth memorabilia and dramatic light fittings. Gorgeous. staff were brilliant and breakfast was everything you could possible want. Would highly recommend. Views over the estuary stunning.

Internet was fine, shops about 15 minutes walk. Very hilly, lots of steps to the shops. Lots of places dog friendly, loads of dogs around. Hotel was good dog friendly too. Food of good quality, breakfast very good hot and cold. Our room was quite a way from the entrance. Hotel not disabled suitable.Ask for a bed biggè than 4'6". Overall would stay here again.

Excellent location, remember to book your parking space. Room decor was very tired. Soundproofing almost non existent, and with a function happening somewhere close, and late returning noisy guests, sleep was elusive. Heaters wouldn’t turn off and room was far too hot for us. Fortunately windows opened. Lots of hot water. Bed was a bit soft for us. Didn’t have breakfast but close to town where cafes are plentiful. Staff pleasant enough. Lifts very small.

We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms and we were very impressed. It was decorated to a high standard, very clean, super comfy bed and the little extras like the dressing gowns in the wardrobe just added to the luxury feel. We enjoyed it so much we are planning to visit again later in the year.
