"we were on a stopover enroute home. Check in was easy, rooms easy to find and receptionist happy and welcoming. Good start. Food options for the restaurant and times explained before we set out for a couple of hours in Whitby. As we had arrived late we settled on returning to the Hotel for evening meal. This was probably our low point. Starters were fine I had Black pudding BonBons and my wife had potato skins both were nice. Steak and ale pie was next but I have to say it somewhat missed the mark. the gravy was rather jellified and wasn't at all tasty, the chips were not crisp or fresh tasting almost as if they had been blanched and re-heated. The pie itself was disappointing to the point I didn't finish the meal. we retired to the room (17) which was apparently an upgrade but to be honest, with the road noise we experienced the basic option may well have been a better option. the room itself was fine but didn't set the world alight in an experience battle. Bed not really comfortable but shower was good. Breakfast was a different story. good variety of choice and a nice cooked full English breakfast. Yorkshire black pudding is a joy to the taste buds. Adequate parking and close by made in/out easy. Probably don't rate it as value for money but it will suit many other travellers restaurant questionable from my experience, hopefully a one off"
