"Best thing about the stay was the view of the Mississippi River from our room. Room was clean. Had a fridge and microwave -- nice touch. Internet/Wi-Fi was sporadic; don't count on it for your usage. AC unit worked nicely but was noisy like most motels/hotels. The retreat overlooks Highway 52 on a bluff so you have a nice view of the River. On the downside, there is a rail line close by and trains roll through during the night blowing their whistles and semi trucks going by on Hwy 52 using their air brakes made for challenging nights. Good luck in getting a good, sound night's sleep. The exterior needs some TLC. The property had some nice features such as lounge chairs, grill, and fire pit. But the deck leading to the 2nd level is deteriorating. The structure could use some repair and paint. The grounds seemed to have a natural prairie look but there were weeds to take away from the attempted natural beauty. In summary, the Retreat had some nice features but also could be improved to make a person's stay more enjoyable. Since we didn't spend much time in our room other than sleeping and cleaning up, the negative aspects of the property didn't impact us much."

"The ice machine downstairs was broken, so you had to take an elevator of dubious origin to the 3rd floor for ice. Further, no sundries shop. Just a couple of vending machines with warm Pepsi products."

"This place isn't terrible, but, imo, it was not worth much more than half of the price they were charging. The rooms and decor are very old, dark, and dingy. This place is old and is starting to fall apart. I was disappointed. Again, if the price was considerably cheaper, the quality of the room would be more understandable."

"Breakfast was minimal and staff was slow to replace items that had been eaten. The room was clean and spacious, and the AC performed well. (The room was 88 when I arrived and cooled down to 72 within the hour.) This would be a solid 4 if the staff were available as needed."
