"Excellent well kept property, the only issue is there is no parking with the property and local Chelmsford parking is restrictive only till 5am and the local carparks are exceptionally expensive."

"Enjoyed a 4 night stay, great location, very friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms are spacious and clean. Food and service from the onsite Samphire restaurant was great. Would return again."

"We stayed here while at the State Fayre festival and will definitely stay here again if there is another festival next year. Friendly staff, lovely gardens and comfortable rooms (although air conditioning would’ve been nice during the heatwave!) Only suggestion would be: upgrade the toiletries in the rooms please. Two tiny watery bottles is not enough!"

"This place is a little dated and in dire need of some TLC. A little time or money spent on the grounds could make this place amazing again, starting with the outsides. It is cheap enough to stay and the rooms although a little dated have great flooring all around including the bathrooms. The staff we interacted with were all friendly but they were a little off putting everytime we went past the reception there would be staff hanging around outside which made you feel uncomfortable, it was sunny...

"Plenty of parking available, the staff were friendly and helpful. The actual accommodation is very tired and dated. The sink in the bathroom was totally cracked and in my opinion could be dangerous."

"Everything was lovely and the front staff so very helpful. The only thing I would say about was the sound on the TV it was very muffled all the time no matter what we put it up to. "lovely relaxing hotel"

"I was able to check in online before I arrived at The Kicking Dickey. The staff were very helpful and friendly along with the pub which I thought was very welcoming. My room was at the rear of the property so away from any noise. The room itself was comfortable and well maintained, I think it might of been a converted stable. Nice functional bathroom with a shower and a very comfortable single bed. Lots of free parking outside the property. All in all well worth a stay."

"The hotel is tired and needs to be refurbished feel sorry for the staff as a lot of people complaining the staff were fantastic"

"There was no AC. being a listed building makes it hard to install AC. the room was so hot it was almost unbearable. One sash window could only open about 20cm at the bottom, as secondary double glazing had been installed it was not possible to open the top part. The other window only opened at the bottom but would not stay open so staff put a cushion there to keep it open. They gave us another fan which helped. Because of the heat in the room we could not close the curtains at night as that...

"I visited during the most recent heatwave. It was 35 degrees outside but the room was well prepared with the air conditioning on full blast which was a relief. I noticed that I didn't have any towels but this was quickly rectified and I was issued a drink voucher as compensation which was a nice touch. The room was mostly clean, the bins were emptied and the carpet looked hoovered. There was a bit of dust here (maybe due to the A/C?) and a bug or two there but nothing major."

"Parking easy and safely tucked away behind hotel. Lovely spacious room and fresh bedding, very clean. Very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast, lots of choice, in lovely large dining room."
