Not so good.

Did not look or feel clean. Badly in need of updating and repair. Sink badly cracked, lock on door didn’t work.

DON'T DO IT!

The service and amenities were nonexistent. Stayed two nights and received no maid services on 2nd day. We had to call down and ask for towels. They left two large towels and no hand towels or face cloths Didn't empty trash when they left the towels but did leave two extra bags for us to change out. Room was outdated, feeling paint on walls and ceiling. Total lack of attention to details. Towels were paper thin and discolored. Found king gray hairs throughout the room when we checked in. Glad to checkout and be gone!

Motel said 3 day rate was $332.24 and Expedia charged $505.xx. Room was never attended, had to beg for towels, no security, arrogant desk clerk (owner). Motel was mostly vacant even though most motels were sending customers there, and most of the ones we observed looked and left! Never again!

Don't stay here!

This was hands down the worst place I've ever stayed. I wasn't expecting much but this place was horrible. I new it would be dated and a litle shabby which I can overlook if everything is at least clean. The bathroomwas the worst with visible mold on the walls (health code violation?) filthy shower curtain and tub. if I thought I could have found another place I would have left. I endured it because I was looking at less than a 12 hr stay. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

This place is the biggest dump I've ever experienced. Wouldn't have stayed in the room if it were only $20/night, let alone what they were charging. It was moldy, dirty, and smelly, in addition to just being kept poorly. Beware of bedbugs and other critters that are able to enter the room through the crack in the door (when it's closed). Owner stated he would refund our money (we couldn't stay in the room), but he went on to charge my card anyway. Horrible, unscrupulous business practices, and unsanitary room conditions. Run the other way!!!

Ok - but go prepared…

**Pros** Affordable Close to local beaches, restaurants, etc. Great Lake view / across from Maslowski beach 35min from Apostle Islands Large room/ Comfy beds Newer Tv & had cable Had fridge & microwave in-room Great AC (even on a super hot day!) **Cons** Minimum toiletries (2 small bars of soap, 1 small shampoo). Only 2 thin towels (For 3 people!?) Not the cleanest Noise - hear the highway/cars No elevator Summary: Family trip of 3. We had 2 beds (which were very comfy). Room had a table & chairs. Luckily we had beach towels with us, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to dry off after showers (we weren’t given enough towels). We also purchased some shampoo at the gas station. The room was sort of clean.. The shower had hair on the walls & tub bottom, which I was able to spray off (but couldn’t the maid have done that?). But the rest of the room was clean. We asked for a first floor due to a disability and confirmed we would be there for 4pm check-in (which is the earliest allowed). Arrived at 3:58pm & were told everyone else checked in already so we had to have a 2nd floor (with no elevator). Was also told that Hotels.com wasn’t an approved listing site.. (Weird. Since that’s how I booked the room). Overall: Very old, but mostly clean. Close to tourist activities. You’ll need personal towels & toiletries. Would do in a pinch. With some customer service improvements, this could be a great little “diamond in the rough”!

I would not recommend this motel to anyone. In fact, I am stunned it is open to the public. The rooms were absolutely FILTHY. The doors, walls and floors were seriously in disrepair. Mold and hair in shower. The town was sold out so we had no alternatives or we would have moved immediately. We used our own bedding and attempted to make the best of an awful situation. 0 out of 10.

It was across the road from the lake. Great view. The room needed to be remodeled and spruced up. The step up to the room was larger than normal and therefore harder to get into the room. The bed is right by the door which is a little creepy. There was a tile in the ceiling off kilter in the bathroom - creepy. No hairdryer.

Disappointing!

The room was in very poor condition. The walls had holes in them and there was chipped paint everywhere. The ceiling had stains on it. The pillowcases had an odor. I had to go to Walmart to buy my own pillow cases. I also purchased febreeze because the room smelled. The floor was sticky so I had to put my flipflops on to even walk to the bathroom. There were bugs caked on the door. I will not stay in this hotel again!

I liked that the property is right on the Lake Superior. There is a good coffe house across the street and the beach, but generally speaking it is too cold to swim in the lake, just mainly to sit on the beach and admire the body of water. Some kids still swim even when the water temperature is 63 degrees. Ashland has nice little historical center and a few nice reasonably priced restaurants. But the property itself is very old snd begs for renovation. But from the budget standpoint it was a steal as compared to other nicer places.
