Friendly staff, room was value for money. A little disappointed that the restaurant was only serving same food as bar, especially as booked for a birthday. Bar staff very customer orientated and super friendly, made as fuss of hubby for his birthday.

This hotel was in need of updating , the bathtoom tap wobbled on its stalk, the tv didnt work, The lighting cam on and flashed at night, the smoke alarm went off at 6.30 am.
The worst bit was the breakfast, first day ok, second day, had virtually no cereal, no fresh fruit and no meats or cheeses, they had run out. Only two small pots of tea between 5. My main was avocado on muffin. It looked terrible, barely toasted muffin, no butter or anything to make it look presentable.
On arrival the lady at reception was brilliant, so nice friendly couldnt have been more helpful.
The meal we had served in the bar was very good couldnt fault it lovely and fresh
Lovely big rooms and helpful staff. Room def in need of modernisation but big with everything you’d need. Barman particularly helpful. Lovely location and although just off main road which made it easy was extremely quiet. Would recommend
Although it was just a one night stay for me I received a very warm welcome, shown to my room and all staff; reception, bar and restaurant were first class in their roles.
Room was clean and tidy and bed very comfy.
Good selection of food and cooked breakfast to order.
From a wonderful warm welcome from Teresa, to checking out, I had a brilliant time here. The room was spotless, cosy and quiet, the bar meal was delicious, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be coming back to this hidden gem!
I stay here on a regular basis when I travel between Glasgow and the south. The hotel is a grand old building in a beautiful little hamlet off the A1 with lots of history. Due to this and the fact its family owned and not part of a huge chain, it’s a bit worn in places but it’s clean, comfortable and cosy with plenty of charm and quirks.. The staff are lovely, welcoming, very helpful and do their best to make your stay a good one. There’s a spa, a bar and a restaurant, the food is delicious and there is a variety of dishes to suite all. I would stay here before considering any of the other places nearby for all of these reasons.
Staff were kind and friendly. Food was good in the bar but over priced.
My room was grubby, the bedding and bathroom were clean but there was dust and dirt on the ledges and windowsills. No shower gel in the bathroom either. I was also above the kitchen there was lots of banging about outside and a constant humming/droning from what sounded like extractor fans. This did stop around 9pm but then started up again at 10pm. It was really quite loud, I could still hear it when I had my headphones in.
I was charged twice, payment taken by expedia and by the hotel. I have been advised that the hotel have refunded my payment but nothing showing yet.
It is such a shame this beautiful building is being left to deteriorate but not spending money is one thing, there is no excuse for it not being cleaned properly.
Our room was not clean - filthy window frames, the room and bathroom was dusty and grubby everywhere. The staff were all friendly but on our arrival we had to go and find a member of staff to check us in - it was deserted. Checking out was lengthy as there was confusion from the hotel about what we had booked and paid for, we were clear about our booking and showed our digital booking forms but the receptionist was not convinced by it.
Dirty dusty and cobwebs
Stool collapsed and cut my leg

Nice place to stay
Friendly and helpful at front desk. The handle on the bathroom door was loose so couldn’t close it fully to use the loo.
Could do with something on at night.

Bed very comfortable. Room got hot. Didn’t feel comfortable leaving window open over night due to fire escape right outside the window and being a lone female.
