Blackpool Zoo puts on a range of animal talks and keeper experiences to give you and your kids a fun and interactive day out. Roaming within the enclosures are creatures from across the globe, from Asian elephants and African lions to Caribbean flamingos and Chilean rose tarantulas. Pass through this eclectic zoo for a closer look at some of nature’s gems.
Bring your family to the Project Elephant Base Camp, comprising sandy and grassy areas as well as a bathing pool for these majestic beings. Turn up at the Orangutan Outlook to interact with the Bornean great apes and spy the primates on Gorilla Mountain.
Spot the colorful birds in the Amazonia section, where cute monkeys roam through the undergrowth. Other highlights include the Wallaby Walkabout, Wolf Ridge and the Big Cat House.
Bring your little ones to the Children’s Farm to stroke a bunny and play with a plastic cow. The zoo even has a history area that teaches us about dinosaurs.
Let your kids be zookeepers for the day, so they can meet the lemurs and touch a tapir, among other activities. Watch the bird-training and sea lion shows for a window into these creatures’ intelligence.
Take a break from the animals with a meal at one of the restaurants or cafés. The Lake View Café offers a stunning vista while you eat. Get ice cream from the kiosks and browse items on display in the Main Gift Shop, which has jewelry, clothing and other souvenirs.
The zoo opens daily year-round, from morning until late afternoon. Discounted tickets are available online, although you can also buy them at the gate.
Blackpool Zoo is on the eastern side of Stanley Park in eastern Blackpool. Drive east from Blackpool Tower for 10 minutes to find the zoo. Visit some of the nearby attractions, such as the Blackpool Model Village & Gardens, Stanley Park Golf Club and Blackpool Sports Centre.
