Occidental Faro
10/10 Excellent
"Excellent position. Quiet, but central. Lovely and relaxing sitting outside dining with the marina below and the lagoon type water area beyond. Excellent breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff."

Tivoli Marina Vilamoura

"Stayed for 1 wk, during which time a golf tournament was on. There was a distinct change in the clientele and business of the hotel post tournament. Staff on arrival only provided most basic information and we were left to find out for ourselves info about the facilities at the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Stayed on b & b rate choosing to eat out at the many restaurants within the marina Breakfast was a buffet arrangement with plenty of choice. Being coeliac, there was a dedicated gf area and toaster although be wary as non gf helped themselves to gf food. Disappointingly cooked breakfast was not gf and high risk of cross contamination. Chocolate spread open to all so cross contaminated. Difficult to explain this to staff although most spoke very good English. Tea very slow to arrive. We had 2 bookings due to a flight change by easyjet but took 4 attempts to get staff to agree we could stay in same room after first booking. They did recognise our wedding anniversary and sons birthday with a special treat in room which was really nice. Balconies on beach side in shade, marina side noisy but fantastic views. Great resort for those with mobility difficulties Pool not deep, not heated either but nice to take a quick dip. Drinks and food by pool very expensive, £40 for 3 drinks and fries. Beds on beach start at €40 per day and private pool €150 euros per day. 20% discount if staying in hotel. No ambience or real atmosphere in hotel of evening. Enjoyable stay."

Roots Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Stylishly decorated and in pristine condition. Its location is perfect. The area itself is a little bit tatty but it’s minutes away from the old town, loads of restaurants and the marina. The staff couldn’t do enough for you, even helping me out with the uber app on my phone. The room was lovely. Just like everything else it was absolutely immaculate with a lovely kitchenette looking over the terrace/pool. The pool area is cute and after walking around in the heat it was such a pleasure to come back for a dip before spending a couple of hours lying on a sunbed. The breakfast box is an excellent idea: A full continental breakfast which you can eat in your room or take to the terrace by the pool where there was also a free coffee machine. I highly recommended this hotel and its staff."

Cerro Mar Atlantico & Cerro Mar Garden

"The grounds were lovely. Pools well kept. Nice location away from the bustle of old town. Shuttle during the day into and out of old town is nice as the steps getting down and up get tiring. We honestly didn’t mind though. Great way to work off some tarts! We stayed in the Cerro Mar Atlantico building. Our booking through Expedia said 4 twin beds and 2 pull outs. The units actually have 2 twin beds, 1 double and 1 pull out. The beds were so hard that my mom and sister actually bruised their hips over the course of the week. You could feel the springs through the mattress. The kitchen was clean and had cups, dishes and cutlery but that was it! No extras!! No coffee filters, dish scrub, dishes soap, dishwasher pucks etc. we had to buy absolutely everything. The daily cleaning was always interesting. I don’t think any actual cleaning happened and beds were not made. I think they just left fresh towels on the bed and took the dirty ones. Sometimes they would leave 1 towel and we would be short, and sometimes they would leave 2. In one of the bathrooms the motion lights turn off constantly which is dangerous when showering. In the other bathroom they wouldn’t go out for half the night. The bathroom door was ridiculously loud and would wake everyone with each bathroom visit. All this to say, the units themselves are dated and need some TLC and the daily service is really just fresh towels. We had a great time despite. It just wasn’t what we expected :)"

PortoBay Blue Ocean

"Pros: The room was exactly as described—very clean, spacious, and comfortable. Breakfast was good, and we also enjoyed the food from the poolside bar. The property itself is beautiful, with lush landscaping and a relaxing atmosphere. Cons: The “direct beach access” felt a bit misleading. Because of the cliffs, accessing the beach requires either a 15-minute walk down the road or navigating 300+ stairs to a secluded beach. The walk itself isn’t too bad, but it was difficult with my wife being 7 months pregnant. The shower temperature constantly fluctuated to scalding hot, which made my 3-year-old afraid to use it. During our stay, I cut my toe and asked staff for a bandage, but was told they didn’t have any available, which was surprising for a hotel of this caliber. Parking was also frustrating—spaces seemed first-come, first-served each day, and when we tried to use the underground garage, the gate wouldn’t open. Overall: The hotel has many positives, especially the beautiful grounds, clean rooms, and good food, but a few practical issues made the stay less convenient than expected."
