Very tired and very dirty - green algae in the bathroom, excessive limescale in the bathroom sink, hairs on the floor and dirty bath, smelled old and damp, door had obviously got damp at some point as was warped and difficult to close. Luckily the bed was clean and fresh. The pub itself was fine and the food was acceptable, breakfast was good.

Big quirky room with a four poster bed and good sized bathroom. Armchairs positioned for watching the big TV and a desk and chest of drawers containing an iron and hair dryer. A little surprised there wasn't a wardrobe but there were places you could hang stuff up. Lovely staff who were friendly and efficient. Food is delicious and the breakfast included the biggest omelettes I've ever seen! The only downsides were rather low pressure in the shower, though this could have been us not having used an electric shower for ages, and I found the mattress a bit soft but my wife loved it and was out like a light. I would definitely recommend this hotel and it's a good base for exploring the area like Frome.

The George Hotel

The George is a lovely, old-fashioned kind of hotel in a small village. Check in was a little confused as we missed the sign that said reception but once we found it, it was easy. The room was spacious with a king sized bed, kettle, desk and chair. I was extremely impressed with the breakfast. Tea, coffee, juice, cereal and toast then a cooked choice from the menu. Staff were super friendly and helpful. A lovely stay and we would definitely return.

Awesome service, friendly locals, great place

Amazing place. The locals are above and beyond friendly and welcoming. Pip, Chloe, Harley and the team are the most helpful, friendly and diligent that could possibly be. I would highly recommend. Already booked in for next year!

Hotel with character and very friendly

Very nice hotel - extremely attentive staff. Lots of character. Very comfortable bed. Big bathroom with efficient shower. Because it's an old building, it is a bit shabby in places, but this is in character and doesn't affect one's enjoyment. Food was good - great central location with parking.

Our Stay at The George

We stayed, along with 11 other family members, to celebrate my husband's birthday. Overall was a very enjoyable stay. Good service, mainly good food and great live band. The fire alarm did sound off through a technically at 4 am though!

The George Hotel is a beautiful old building, full of character and charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there over 3 nights and the location of The George Hotel in Castle Cary was perfect for exploring the surrounding area (the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Wells & Glastonbury for us). The staff at the hotel were all friendly and helpful & the overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The food was excellent - we enjoyed breakfast, lunch & also dinner in the restaurant one evening and were very impressed each time. Fabulous service and well cooked, tasty food. The George Hotel was a great choice for us and everything we hoped it would be.

Very tired, No privacy

There was a huge party going on in the pub, a member of the party went to find someone to hep us!! Our room was a ground floor room with a full glass door, there was no cover for the door, so no privacy and as soon as the sun was up so were we!!! Terrible

The hotel/pub is run down and the rooms extremely poor. The bathroom was dirty with walls with stream marks. The only mirror was so high i could only see the top of head. The bed was very soft and the glass door to the outside had no curtain. Most lights didn’t work. The bathroom had poorly cut planks of wood as a wall.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights where the staff were great. The room was very spacious, but we found the mattresses that we joined together not good for our backs. Also, without footwear, I found it difficult to pull the blind and found wooden splints in the rug. When using the over bath shower, there was only about a third of a curtain, so the water escaped between the bath and basin.on the way to room 12, at nighttime, there were now bulbs in the first and last light fitment. Also, there was no hairdryer and, although many people would not watch TV, possibly the mostly watched channels BBC and ITV 1 were unavailable. The price of the accommodation was good value for this area, but £20 for beer battered fish, chips and £12 for the 3 cheese board was rather high, compared to in southern Dorset. Although there are great staff, because of the accommodation and food prices, we will not be returning.
