I stayed in Lyall Melbourne. That was a true 5 star boutique hotel in a very nice area. Ok, prices differ between Sydney and Melbourne, but...

"The room was clean and large. Check in was smooth. The hotel clearly made an effort with soundproofing with double doors between the bar downstairs and the hotel rooms upstairs. Some noise still seeped through from the bar but it was muffled. The bigger noise issue is actually the hotel being situated right at the intersection of major roads and you could hear cars and trucks - this could be fixed by double glazing the windows, or wearing earplugs. "This was a beautiful location with views over Surrey Hills and also a glimpse of the opera house. Close to many restaurant and face options, close to Oxford and Crown Streets. I have to say that the staff made the stay so wonderful. "
