"The room was clean as although dated. We intended to have evening meal but when we sat in the bar/restaurant area for 10 minutes, we observed utter chaos with no leadership of staff. The Bar person was uninterested with no urgency. The bar was full of unwashed empty glasses. No way to run a bar. We left and ate elsewhere. We would not recommend this hotel."

"Common Spaces were not so clean, in the bedrooms , glass Windows were really in need for a good clean, even restaurant toilets could be cleaner. Breakfast was good even of staff was not so welcoming in the morning. While dinner was excellent "

"The receptionist was far from welcoming - very matter of fact. I enquired to see if there was any cancellation with a dog friendly room - shrugged her shoulders and that was a no - not even I am sorry. Bar staff where we could take a dog was over the top - as we walked in announced to whole bar we were walking in - there was a very loud child approx 9 yrs old who he was encouraging to be even louder - we moved table. We have stayed here a few times but will not be back."

"The food is great but very expensive, although Ballater is an expensive place to stay. Evening meal and bar lovely, breakfast amazing. Nice feel to the hotel, very traditional and cosy. We stayed in a standard room, which is basic. Mattress and pillows felt cheap, it overlooked properties but there was no net curtain to offer privacy, dusty, TV had no apps to log into, noise from downstairs clearly audible, door in the hallway made a creaking noise. "The Station Hotel has a very convenient location—right across from the train station / Union Square and within walking distance of the city centre. The price is reasonable, which makes it appealing for budget travellers. However, I wouldn’t stay here again. The room showed clear signs of wear and tear, particularly the bathroom door, which was falling apart at the bottom, and missing grout in many of the floor tiles. "Lovely staff, very friendly. Room was far too hot and air con only blew out hot hair despite being on the cold setting. We were on the lower ground floor so we couldn’t open our windows properly without having the curtains open which meant people walking down the side street could see directly in to our room. One of the windows was locked too. Bar closed early and would only serve bottled wine or beer. "
