Overall, we had a good experience, but the check‑in process was rough. They had someone working their first day, and nothing about the hotel was explained. We ended up having to go back to the front desk multiple times for basic things like Wi‑Fi information and directions. The room had a slight smell, and the toilet was a bit unusual, but the convenience of being so close to the beautiful beach made up for a lot. The night entertainment was enjoyable, and we really liked the show. My biggest issue was the food situation and the long, inefficient wait times. It felt like we wasted valuable vacation time just trying to get on a list for reservations hours later. I’ve never experienced anything like that, and there really should be a better system. Honestly, the best meal I had was the grilled chicken at Pepe’s. Also, it was surprising that name‑brand liquor was only available at one bar. For the money spent I guess it was what you pay for.

Room was great. Monkeys just out from the pitch. Very accommodating resort. Staff were great. Buffet was great and you could find food every meal. Taco bar for lunch was great. Many options for food. Ice cream too!

The room was handed over dirty, mini bar was empty and with food from previous customers, the room services was unexistent, although we made several claims over the phone when they answered didnt got a response, placing a claim at the reception had no impact, had the clean up late at night, until next day and again after another multiple claims had the minibar finally stocked. In terms of overall stay food was average, the few restaurants " a la carte" were unaccessible, either you make a queue for 1 to 2 hours or go to the buffe instead, many customers including us were disappointed at the service and obvious disaster of customer satisfaction. Only reason for the extra star was because of the waterpark that made the stay bearable for the young ones.

The only positive thing about this hotel is that it was recently renovated. The food was terrible. About 50% of the staff were nice and polite, 30% were acceptable, but the remaining 20% were very rude. The hotel also used many cheap cost-cutting measures. For example, the only decent restaurant—the steakhouse—was open every other night, and guests had to line up from 4:30 p.m. just for a chance to get a table. Overall, this was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had.

1- room was great but the towels smell bad. 2- staff at the bars are cold and border line rude. Not very pleasant. Maybe that's why they don't get tips. Staff at the restaurants and buffets are great. 3- amenities are great but they could play some music through out the resort would be nice. 4- the restaurants don't take reservations so we have to line up for 45min/1 hour and they limit to 200 people for dinner and anything more they won't accept it.. bummer Over all it was good but it doesn't live up to the Riu brand.

Limited restaurants with long waiting list. The steakhouse was open only two nights in five night stay. First night we had to stay 45 min earlier in line up to get buzzer at 6 pm and wating another hour and half to get sits. Second night we couldn't even get registered in wating list. There is seriously lack of food with decent quality of beef meat in all restaurants and buffet as well.It's absolutely waste of $5000 CAD for two adults and a kid!!!

My complaints are minimal. No atm on site so you either have to leave the resort to get some or just plan to bring more then you think you need. Restaurants are the worst….in the sense that if you don’t wait on line 2 hours before they open to get a seat then don’t bother wasting your time waiting on line. Waited in line for 45 min for the host to quietly tell people individually they were no longer taking names, in between seating people on the list instead of just making one announced to save everyone time waiting on line. Wasted a lot of time for absolutely no reason. Kinda ruined the flow of the night for me Place was beautiful tho

We arrived 730 pm on a weekday so our check in time was quick, maybe 15 mins or so (same can’t be said if you are afternoon arrival). Need to be in line for steakhouse by 515 pm at the latest. Buffet food was mediocre but gets the job done for all inclusive purposes. Dining hall clean and organized. Staff helpful and timely. Alcoholic drinks are sugary and watered down but you can counter this by asking for shots or beer. Overall, I’m glad we were by the beach and enjoyed an all inclusive experience in a country we haven’t been to, but I wouldn’t return here again nor would I encourage friends/family to stay here.

The staff was very nice, helpful, and friendly. The food was great at all the restaurants, except for the steak at the steak house. We ate there twice and both times it was very chewy like it was not ribeye steak. Another minor disappointment was the sewer smell in the bathroom, despite being cleaned often. Almost, like there wasn't a good barrier (P-trap) in the pipes to keep the smell out. My family occupied three rooms, and it was the same in all the rooms. Other customers we spoke to had the same experience. Also, there wasn't a vent in the bathrooms, so after showering there was a lot of moisture on the walls. One of our rooms already has some mold on the ceiling area above the shower. It puzzles me how this was over looked during the renovations. Despite the above, we had a great time and experience and would go back again. Hopefully, someone reads this and takes appropriate action to rectify these issues.

outdoor and indoor with interior design of hotel is beautiful, there is problem with sewer smell, especially in the bathrooms, service and front desk its a disaster, after check in we notice that our toilet flash does not work, safe box and phone was not working, when we went to front desk, manager told me that he is busy so he even bother to help us, someone finally came after 45 min after second our ingereration. Food overall was good but very limited options, all station had the same food, pool was full of bugs, like noone was cleaning, there was nobody to help us with luggage in and out, bathroom has only hand soap and shampoo with body wash, there was no hair conditioner, had to buy in local store, beach had a volcanic sand which was dark, so there is no turquoise water if someone like it. room service was only cleaning the bed, did not refill wash, one of our friends left clother to be washed in the drycleaner, never get it back. Riu guanacaste needs lots of improvement starting from customer service at the front, to room service. Buffet option had no bacon and there was no station for omelets, by 9.30 almost everything was empty so if you there please eat your breakfast early in the morning.

The resort is beautiful, but improvements are needed. Our fridge was not stocked upon arrival. The bellman had to notify housekeeping to come refill. The male front desk staff seemed to not know much information nor have good customer service. It was my birthday trip so my spouse asked if there were any birthday services provided or that he could pay for (such as decorations or birthday cakes, etc.) and they told him no - but on our last night, there were several birthday celebrations done in the Liberia buffet. We didn’t know about this option, which was disappointing that it wasn’t mentioned when my spouse asked. The BIGGEST disappointment was that there was no food available after 10pm. The one restaurant “American County” that was supposed to have food available until 11pm, stopped providing food every night after approximately 9:50pm. They only gave out small snack items at the time of closing for the guests. The tortilla chips in that restaurant are stale and need to be changed out. I think it is dangerous and concerning to not provide guests with a decent amount of at least light food options, and continuously providing alcohol all night. There were no food delivery options available either. ANOTHER disappointment was the inability to make reservations at the restaurants. So much time was spent on lines and sitting around waiting to get into the restaurants. Many guest complained about this. A reservation system needs to be implemented for smoother experiences.
