"I hate leaving things like this but I think everyone would agree with me here when I say this. I pulled up in the car park and decided I would book a night there and then as it was in a gorgeous setting and a lovely day. Anyway as I was 2 hours away from Check in time I went for a walk, I then got a call from my mams care home saying she had taken a tumble and could I come straight away. This was at 2.15pm ( 15 mins past check in time) but I was still out on my walk and had not checked in. I went straight to the holly hill inn and explained my situation, I simply asked because I had booked through hotels.com and had not checked in yet if I could simply move my booking to another night maybe tomorrow and come back and I was told no! I explained again and said I am not asking for a refund but simply to switch the night stay for another so I wouldn’t lose out. To be told no! I spent over £100 for nothing and I really don’t understand why they wouldn’t just let me switch the night ( obviously like for like, so not a weekend) as I had not even got the key and entered the room! Not how I would treat my customers this much I know! "

"Room and in fact whole hotel is spotless. Friendly staff and fabulous food. Great location too. Limited parking but we did get a space. "

"Just not boutique or luxury. Change description to ‘authentic’ and you may be close to what it is. Very worn out and tired b&b. "

"The room was absolutely filthy - even the kettle was dirty. The bathroom had black mould in it and there was mould / damp above the bed. The window didn't open so we couldn't even air the room. I dropped some clothing on the floor and when I picked it up it was covered in dust / dirt and small curly hairs... I know the room was cheap - the furniture was all very old and dated which is fine but the very least I expect from a hotel room is for it to be clean. The breakfast was the only redeeming feature - the breakfast was good and the breakfast chef was lovely. "

"Lovely big room, comfortable bed, friendly welcoming staff! Only downside the room was overlooking the market square which made it noisy after pubs closed! Overall pleasant stopover! Will hopefully spend more time exploring Richmond next visit!"

"Heating turned on at 20degrees but frankly when it’s minus 7 outside this was not enough. A fan in the bathroom would be good because it’s unreasonable to expect the window to be open when freezing outside. Shower was hard to adjust. A manual when you arrive would be a help too If you had 4 people in this house it would be too small. A simple double bed in the second bedroom would provide a bit more space to move around. Towel rail in the bathroom would be better if you could tirn it off and on yourself - it’s connected to the heat which hardly ever seemed to come on."

"Spotless linen and towels. Breakfast lovely. Staff delightful and so so helpful but suddenly jobless. I was advised it was shutting within 3 days so had to walk to sister hotel 5 minutes away for breakfast. Shared toilet and shower with 2 other rooms. Room very cold at night so cleaner gave me an electric radiator from another room. This property needs a lot of fuel Injection to bring it up to standard. Staff worked hard and were brilliant but the hotel was damp, scruffy and certainly seen better days. Sharing bathroom and toilet with up to 5-6 other people unacceptable. I used facilities with people I went to visit. The owner needs lessons in keeping staff morale up !"
