"The door was broken with a screw hanging out of the door handle which is asking for injury. When we first got there they said the key was in the door which isn’t very safe, then next minute they have lost the key and it takes them 10-15 to find us a key while we just stand around and wait. We go upstairs see the door handle and it’s literally a box with a bed in it. The bathroom had a dead fly in the shower. Wanted a full refund but only got half even through we did not stay there. "We booked both rooms. The rooms are okay and clean. Felt a bit aged and hadn’t been used for a while. Instructions are minimal, and shampoo is missing in 1 room, the same room the 1 ceiling light was broken. I guess if you are tired after the bike trail for a stopover, you may not care that much, but not an ideal place to relax. We couldn’t really cook or BBQ here. "Reasonably clean and tidy No tv in the lounge but one in bedroom Was a bit of road noise from trucks in units on the roadside but not unbearable. Beds were comfy , sheets clean etc."

"I had a wonderful stay at Pen-y-bryn Lodge. The property is a beautiful historic building with a peaceful atmosphere, and the room was spacious, spotless, and full of character. "One of the best motel we have ever stayed. The staff is very great, and helpful. The room is 5 stars. We love the spa bath. It's relatively new room and very very clean. Near to the town center, and lots of restaurants. Will stay there again for sure."

"The bed was rock hard and the shower dribbled out. The room was clean and tidy and it was evident that they are trying to upgrade the facilites. "

"Convenient location and comfortable and well appointed room - perfect for our one night stay in Oamaru. Easy parking and ground floor room made access very easy. Would not hesitate to recommend to other travellers. We didn’t use the on site restaurant or bar facilities so can’t comment on that."

"We were pleased to be located at the rear of the complex so didn’t hear traffic noise. The suite was situated nicely and clean and the beds were comfortable. Was especially happy to be welcomed by a cat, not sure if it’s part of the complex or neighbour but was a delightful surprise, just want to know its name. Only there for a night so only interaction with staff was check-in and the person was friendly. Kitchen is small but has the basic supplies to be able to prepare a simple meal."
