"We had booked what we thought was a higher end hotel, well we paid a higher price for our twin room. The first room we were given was room 116 and was tiny, the window started about 7 feet up and so had no view or air in the room. The bed frames were frayed and very dated. The walls and very high ceiling looked like it had previous damp. We were moved to another room 516, equally small but had a window to let some air in as it was so hot. All facilities were basic and tired.
The breakfast was mass presumed, for a hotel this size there could have been fresh coffee, not out of machine. There was plenty of choice but all very basic, cheap ingredients and the cooked breakfast was obviously massed cooked and lacked the finish to make it a good breakfast (over fried hash browns, dry sausage and black pudding, weird half fried half poached egg)
The grand lounge was indeed grand, the wine in the bar was good value £24 for a bottle of NZ Sauvignon.
It felt to me like a very budget hotel with high ceilings and a few chandeliers. I would not recommend here which is a shame as this could be an excellent hotel. "
