"Great hotel and onsen, especially for the price. We were assigned one of the 8th floor themed rooms with the Aso bear as decoration—adorable and great room. Room was spacious and beds comfortable. The buffet dinner and breakfast were well worth the price! The kids’ play room was fun; the indoor pool was great (including a sauna at 95 Celsius). We didn’t get a chance to do the regular onsen, but did reserve a private onsen, which was cheap and well worth it if you’re a little uncomfortable otherwise. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is great for visiting the Aso area as well. 10/10 hotel."
"Liked: Large rooms
Did not like: Rigid dining schedule. Food, while plentiful and tasty, was served at a fast pace as the time available for dinner is limited.
Private onsen not worthwhile -- water very hot and space cramped. No after dinner option to socialize. Bar very limited and closes (hard close) at 9 pm.
Upon asking what people do in the evening we were told-- Onsen (bathe)! It is not everyone's preference to take a hot bath after dinner."
"It was the perfect gateway into our Ryokan/onsen experience with beautiful & spacious accommodations in a super private and relaxing setting. Having our own onsen with view of the mountains was an absolute dream after a week in the big cities.
The attentive staff were exceptional and brought dinner to our room that we cooked over the coals for a unique experience.
Overall an incredible retreat to come back to after a busy day of onsen hopping. Truly a first class experience!"
"Clean and spacious traditional style room.
Toilet was somehow a bit too small though, not particularly comfortable to use.
Basin (for hand washing after using toilet) was then on the other side of the room which was a bit inconvenient.
Hot spring facilities were at a different building (much newer and modern) which were 2 mins walk away. That was a slight problem when it was raining heavily when we were there.
Parking was not great for our bigger car (RAV4 size type SUV). Tight space and lot of guests made parking very difficult.
During golden week, when we stayed there, dining options at night were very limited in nearby regions."
