Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park which includes zoo animals and a park
Wander through this free-flight aviary to spot colorful birds in the trees as well as up-close exhibits with storks, kites, hornbills and more.

The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is one of the largest covered bird enclosures in the world, covering about 21 acres (8.5 hectares). It features an enormous free-flight aviary as well as a number of other enclosures housing rare and exotic species. There are also feeding demonstrations, bird shows and a nursery where you can see chicks of all kinds.

Start out in the free-flight walk-through aviary to watch birds of various shapes and sizes fly from tree to tree, wade through streams and tend to their young. You’ll notice doves and egrets whizzing through the air and birds of several different species flocking around food points during the various feeding sessions held throughout the day.

As you stroll through the park, keep watch for the bright blue Indian peacock’s fan of 5 foot (1.5 metre) tail feathers on display. At the Flamingo Pond, enjoy a peaceful gathering of people and birds. You’ll see greater and lesser flamingos feeding and socializing alongside pelicans and other water fowl.

Stop by the Love Aviary to admire Indian ring-necked parakeets. They’re known as “lovebirds” for their life-long monogamous pairing and the large amounts of time couples spend side by side. To watch a bird-of-prey feeding show, visit the brahminy kite enclosure around mid-afternoon.

Head to the World of Parrots to gaze at 20 different species in a single aviary. You can feed the colourful birds and learn about each variety. For a look at exotic hornbills, blue magpies and purple swamp hens, visit the tropical Hornbill Park. Check out the Waterfall Aviary to see endangered milky storks on a 30 foot (9 metre) man-made waterfall.

Kids will love the education centre and nursery, where they can pet birds and see chicks of various species.

The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is in the heart of downtown, not far from KL Sentral Station. Pay parking is also available. There is an admission fee for the park, which is open every day of the year except major cultural and religious holidays.
