"Stairs everywhere, no elevator. We actually left luggage in our car so we wouldn’t have to haul it up the stairs. The worst part was as soon as you opened our room door, there was a big step down, literally 8 inches from the door. I was first and I had my arms full so I didn’t notice the step. If my son did not see it and warn me, I would have fallen and been injured either my striking my head on the marble stair or landing on the wooden floor. I have osteoporosis, so I could have broken my hip. There were no warning signs or warning tape of any kind. A sign on the outside of the door warning of an immediate step down could save a serious injury from occurring. This was a two bedroom with a loft. The loft steps were steep and narrow, do not bring any luggage up there. There was no privacy in the loft and no door on the master bedroom. The shower was old and tiny. Go somewhere else you will not regret it."

"Beds were amazing! So comfortable. We were just there for a few hours to catch a bit of sleep before our early morning flight. Staff were helpful with where to buy souvenirs and for catching the shuttle so early in the morning to the airport. We left so early that we couldnt enjoy the breakfast but the front desk sent us off with breakfast bags to go with fruit, snacks and juice boxes in them. A nice touch for the morning!"

"We stayed the night before our departure. Located close from the airport and right next to the mall. We enjoyed their buffet style breakfast. The shuttle takes you to the airport every 30 minutes which was very convenient for us since we didn’t have a car."

"This was a really good stay, from the moment you get into the shuttle from the airport, to being greeted at the lobby, the clean and spacious rooms, great food at the restaurant with helpful servers, and the clean pool. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to stay in Costa Rica!"

"I was there for one night and chose this hotel because it is close to the airport and the hotel shuttle was free. The hotel staff were all very helpful and responsive. I was not able to lower the seat, and within 5 minutes, 3 different people tried to help and the chair was replaced. I also needed to change my $20 bill, and again they were very helpful. Breakfast was wonderful, with a variety of options. Of course it was not like a huge hotel's offering, but I was happy with it. "

"Overall, our stay at Barceló San José was okay. The hotel, rooms, and lobby were clean, and the staff was nice. However, the pool area could use better maintenance since there were a lot of leaves and debris, especially in the kiddie pool. The hotel also feels a bit outdated. Breakfast was just okay — it would be nice to have more variety and international food options for guests from different countries."
