Hotel Riu Emerald Bay - All Inclusive
6/10 Okay
"The staff were amazing, always treated us wonderfully. However, there was very limited gluten free options. My meals consisted mainly of fresh fruit, plain salad fixings with no salad dressing that was gluten free, and French fries. We booked the Asian à la cart telling them I was a celiac. All I got was plain white rice and a plain chicken skewer, while the other 7 people of our party got wonderful options. They knew ahead of time that a celiac was going to be there. They cooked everything with soya sauce containing wheat. Even some plain stir fried vegetables would have been a nice addition to my plate. The adult pool was disgustingly dirty. One afternoon a drunk man threw up in the pool and they didn’t evacuate the pool to at least clean up the filth. There was cigar butts around the pool that had been there several days, the pile just kept growing daily. It was very disappointing. The RIU app was great for getting our fridge and coffee stocked. They were there within half an hour. "

Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort, Puerto Vallarta
8/10 Good
"Very nice resort, great food, great beach. The only problem is, do not expect a booking at an à la carte restaurant. The butlers they assign to you to do the bookings tell you every morning that the restaurant is not available. Most likely it's a tactic to keep restaurant bookings down."

Hotel Riu Santa Fe - All Inclusive

"The resort itself was clean and landscaping was well maintained. I was very disappointed in our check in process. We checked in early which the resort was extremely accommodating of. It was not busy at the check in counter, and staff seemed more interested in talking with each other than welcoming the 2 parties ( 1 of which was us) into the resort. It was very brief with very limited explanation of amenities. Our last evening there, I asked a front desk staff member about renting a taxi to take us to the marina. We were told they could NOT pick us up in front of the resort, we would need to walk down to the main road. I didn't feel like doing that at 8:00 and then having to walk back late in the evening. However, when we were waiting for transportation back to the airport, there is a permanent stand that is staffed where they arrange for taxis to take you to local sites. I asked and he said they absolutely come to the front of the resort, that was his job. How frustrating to find this out the day of departure, especially when I specifically asked. Staff in the buffet were not friendly, and rarely came to our table to refill drinks, however, tips are expected. Again, resort facility was great. "

Las Brisas Ixtapa

"3 star at best.
Very clean rooms and beautiful property. Beach is gorgeous and pools were decent. Didn't have to play the towel game which I appreciate. Lots of chairs available. Lots of shade huts on beach - they could use more at pool.
The food is so very average. As a Canadian who generally chooses 4+ star all inclusive resorts, this is a 3. Think glorified Best Western breakfast. Very few items to choose from. Poor quality pastries and basic muffins. Cut up hot dogs - no bacon or sausage available. Heating trays are luke warm.
Same for lunch. Very basic and not much selection. We opted to pay for breakfast only and eat off the resort for all dinners. The lunches were way overpriced if you weren't on the all/in plan.
Staff was very friendly.
Lots of stairs - we knew that going in. But it does make for long trips back to the room if you need to get something.
I visited this hotel 20 years ago - my recollection was that it was much higher end back then.
If a 3 star basic needs hotel is what you're looking for, it will meet your needs.
I wont return. I will spend a bit more to have much better food.
