"The cottage is in a great location to access all parts of the island. Decor and furnishing are on the basic side, but this is more than reflected in the price. The garden has lovely views - a picnic table is provided but I suggest taking your own camping chairs for more comfy, longer term seating. "The hotel is beautiful and modern which we liked. It did lack in some big areas and I frankly expected better. The toilet was dirty on arrival and I don’t mean just a little. There were dried urine stains over the seat, the toilet, the base and the floor. Not sure how this could even be missed (which I can only assume means they don’t clean properly). It was resolved straight away but we shouldn’t have had to ask. The staff in the hotel were good. However, not so much at the onsite restaurant...

"Excellent stay at the Chequers Inn again for a week for the New Year. Beautiful room, good food, clean, lovely staff - shout out to Angela who went above & beyond for us! Lovely compassionate email sent to us following the very sad death of my Dad whilst we were away. Only downside - the bar closed at 10:30pm on New Years Eve! We will definitely return."

"Issues about the room Open the door - strong musky smell even with the window open. On arrival in the room I had to remove 5 spiders (each in different corners of the room) aswell as several cobwebs. Carpet had a massive stain upon entering the room which probably added to the musky smell. Room uninviting and very small for double. Décor was 1970's styled, looking incredibly dated. Bath had large scattered spots of paint so you certainly wouldn't bath in it. Can’t shave as there’s no plug in...

"The room seemed clean, dirty towel that was left was removed after this was pointed out. Room was well equipped with coffee maker and kettle, nice modern bathroom. To our surprise the room was not cleaned during the day and towels not refreshed. Also coffee, tea, water etc was not replenished. Breakfast in the local pub across the square was not good. No fresh fruit for instance and the used ingredients were not the best."

"We booked 2 sea view rooms for 3 nights. Only one room had a sea view and the bathroom in that room had black mould around the ceiling. The other room had a very old mattress and the bedding was old and thin. The pillows in that room were flat. We checked out after 1 night and will not be back. Whilst the staff were friendly, this hotel needs refurbishment, new mattresses, new duvets, pillows, blankets and linen. Mould is injurious to health and no hotel of the calibre that this hotel...

"Room was much bigger than expected (possibly an upgrade) and seemed to have been recently renovated. Spotlessly clean and comfortable bed. Breakfast was included although my invoice stated room only. Apparently all rooms here include breakfast which was very good. Highlight really was the friendliness of staff which is probably because it’s an independent property and they genuinely want to make guests feel welcome. "
