The Island Resort at Fort Walton Beach

"Housekeeping and maintenance were the only staff that were nice! Front desk staff did not help and caused more confusion. I was told fees that needed to be paid at hotel were one price and front desk staff told me something that was $100 more and they couldn’t explain why. Also, parking is $15 a day which wasn’t stated.. even though you can never find parking.. you have to go all the way to the garage which is a hassle. Pool bar staff immediately yells at children if they swim into the bar area. Why put a waterfall that kids will want to swim into in the bar area?! Pool was nice but overcrowded at times. Not enough chairs or umbrellas. Walk right into the beach was great, but they have a ramp into the bar/seating area but no one onto the beach. Room was crowded with unnecessary furniture. Cubby holes are not needed especially when they are broken. Need more flat space to lay luggage and hand things on. Not one hanging racking for swimsuits and towels other than hand towel in bathroom. Overall it was a nice hotel right on the beach with a nice pool. Our building either faced the ocean or the pool. It’s about a 10-15 drive to Destin depending on traffic. They had a nice restaurant inside the hotel but never got the chance to actually try the food."

"We'd been here a couple years ago when it was a Marriott. I do like the cheaper price for the exact same experience. Basic store for emergency items or sodas or whatever, very convenient to the beach. However, they don't have any chairs or umbrellas so if you're out of towners, you're kinda of on our own. Same for any food options.plan to do some walking, most places are within 1 mile either way. Also, you can walk down the beach a hundred yards and rent an umbrella and two chairs for like $32 for 4 hours. Frankly, 4 hours under this sun in June is plenty for us Minnesotan's 🙂 As for transportation, if you don't have your own vehicle, plan on Uber or Lyft as there is no longer any public transportation. Overall, a pleasant experience."

"The Sundrift is centrally located to points of interest in Fort Walton Beach and you can’t beat the parking or direct beach access from the hotel lobby. Check in was quick and reception was friendly. The room itself was lovely, there was some wear and tear which is to be expected from a property, nothing major, no big deal. The room was very clean. The lobby has a snack shop (pricey but that’s expected I feel like), there’s a breakfast bar starting at 7 with quick bites like cereal, burritos, and muffins as well as an upscale Italian restaurant for dinner. I did think it was a little funny when the hostess asked us if we had a reservation for a completely empty restaurant but she and the wait staff were absolutely lovely. At about 10am there are blue Sunset Inc. chairs and umbrellas on the beach for rent from a vendor right at the beach access which was great! Take your phone with CashApp to get some ice cream as it rolls by on carts throughout the day!! When we had enough of the waves we hopped back on the beach walk to the hotel, took a quick shower at the station outside the pool deck, and grabbed some pizza from the Beach Pizza spot by the pool. FANTASTIC pizza, frozen drinks, beer on tap, and a pool with a bench inside perfect for lounging. My only real complaint is the jittery, grinding of the left elevator trying to get to the 3rd floor, spooked me every time, but won’t stop me from visiting again."

"The breakfast was awesome . The staff was wonderful. The fan in the bathroom didn't work. The carpet felt moist and gross to walk on. The ac was not working as well as we would have hoped. My husband was uncomfortable the whole time because it just didn't bring the humidity down low enough. We were only there for 1 night and that was enough. Good luck to you."
