I had a very enjoyable two week stay at the OYO.. Lonsdale..guest house. Very clean and warm room. Excellent nearby shops and cafes in, Summertown,with bus routes five minutes away from city centre.

1. Absolutely atrocious checkin and checkout. If my friend (in another city in the Uk) didn’t have a local sim, I wouldn’t be able to checkin at all. Checkout was just as bad. I sent 5 emails to Expedia, multiple to the property and none form the property were answered. Checkin and checkout instructions were not provided. The reception was in another building but that was never communicated. 2. No toiletries were provided. 3. No coffee or tea was provided. 4. Booked the room for 2 people and only got 1 towel. 5. Would avoid this property altogether. It caused me so much headache.

I normally don’t leave reviews but for something like this I was extremely disappointed. The room I was in was not clean and when I asked the property owners to change the sheets they said that I put something on it, mind you I’d just gotten there two minutes ago and they were showing me my room. The outlet was undone and felt dangerous. The bathroom was so small you couldn’t open the door all the way as it would hit the sink half way through. This wasn’t a very cheap rate either, the easy hotel down the street was charging 5£ less than they did but I decided to go with this because I wanted a more authentic experience and the pictures online looked cozy. Overall was it the worst place you could have? No. Would I recommend it to someone else? Also no. Would I come back? Definitely not. I’ll stick to proper hotels from now on after this experience.

When I arrived at the property, it was unstaffed. There was a list of eight telephone numbers to call. I called one and was directed to open several key safes before the right key was found. When I reached my room, I found that instead of being the “standard” room I’d booked, it was a cheaper “compact room” - much more cramped and much less pleasant. I felt that cleanliness and maintenance left something to be desired - there was cracked and flaking paint, the electrics felt to me pretty amateur with an upside-down light switch, inaccessible desk sockets and a hard-wired extension in flex; there was a squashed moth in one of the walls and grime around. the shower caddy. The towels looked clean but smelt as if they had been stored in a busy kitchen. At night, the property was noisy and I could smell cigarette smoke, presumably from a nearby room. While the property promised a continental breakfast for about £10, there was nowhere to get breakfast. The in-room instructions made it clear that we should ask staff if we encountered any problems. Except there were no staff. I have tried to get help from the property via Expedia’s check-in feedback and messaging systems, but so far I have had no luck.

A lovely family-run guest house. Everything about the property is fantastic. They are helpful and kind. You can walk downtown or cross the street and take the bus, which passes every 10 minutes. There are shops, restaurants, and supermarkets close by. The room was clean and cosy.

Comfortable Stay in a Great Location

We had a pleasant stay overall. The room was clean and the bed was really comfy, which made for a good night’s sleep. The location was ideal—close to the city, restaurants, and with parking available nearby. Late check-in was easy thanks to the key code system. The room had some nice touches like tea bags and biscuits, although there wasn’t quite enough milk provided. The only downside was the kettle, which was covered in a white powdery residue—hopefully just limescale, but it wasn’t very appealing. Aside from that, it was a convenient and comfortable place to stay, and I’d consider returning.

The location is good - close to shops and restaurants in Summertown. Check in was easy with clear instructions for key pick up. The sheets, towels and main areas in the room were clean but other areas were dirty or in need of attention (e.g. the doors to the room and ensuite were dirty and marked, the wallpaper was peeling, there were stains on the stool by the dressing table and on the base of the bed, and the runner for the shower doors needed to be cleaned). It was quite warm during my stay so the fan provided was appreciated. The shower pressure was good with plenty of hot water. Adding a hook in the bathroom would be helpful as there was nowhere to hang towels.

Nice place but watch the hot water!

Overall a pleasant stay. Only thing that might be improved is the showers control. I guess it is always better to have too much hot water, but the hot water is so hot, the in room shower was barely bearable at the coolest setting available. Anyway it is still better than a cold shower.

Awful

Shared bathroom despite booking saying private bathroom. Hotel would do nothing about it, nor would hotels.com. Blind broken in skylight so woken at 6am. Sink in room that you can’t really get to. Pillow had the largest lump in I’ve ever seen. Worst value for money of any place I’ve ever stayed.
