The first thing you need to know about the hotel is it is located directly across from a police station. That is not the hotel or the police department's fault. My review does not "ding" the hotel for this.
I recommend folks use a white noise machine and/or earplugs to sleep if you happen to face the street (Rue de Nancy). We slept with our windows opened and used a white noise machine and earplugs. For us, it worked perfectly.
We booked a queen-sized bed; the room was very spacious, and plugs on both sides of the bed accommodate your electronics. There is an in-room safe and a small refrigerator to use, along with all the other amenities (hair dryer).
The bathroom was more extensive than expected for a hotel in Paris, with the shower having ample room. The water pressure was excellent, and we had a rain showerhead and a handheld unit.
One note: when you are done using the shower, put the stopper (plug) back into the drain. If not, you may have a bit of a funky odor. We learned this on day two when we thought it was the toilet or garbage outside (wrong on both accounts).
The staff at the hotel was excellent, speaking English very well. I appreciated they let me speak in French as much as possible, even if it wasn't the best.
Regarding the area around the property, you can walk 4 min to Chateau d'eau metro station (Metro 4 from Gare du Nord or Chatelet), and you can stop into many eateries along the way.
We loved our stay immensely.
