Watch the fishermen at work in their colorful boats and capture photos of the quaint village skyline from this scenic bay.

Paternoster Beach is a sandy haven that caresses the coastline of its charming fishing village. Characterized by the collection of fishermen and colorful boats, the beach retains its old-world feel and serene ambiance. Lay a blanket down on the sand and enjoy a picnic with family and friends.

Popular activities here include kayaking, kitesurfing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Watch your kids clamber over the coastal rocks that add a rustic charm to the beach. Gaze out over the ocean for a chance of spotting dolphins and whales.

Work on your tan and go beachcombing for marine treasures with the kids. Cool down in the briskly refreshing West Coast ocean water. The beach is particularly scenic when the sun descends over the whitewashed houses of the quaint village. Capture photos of the commune’s skyline, with colorful fishermen’s boats in the foreground.

Enjoy local specialties, such as salted and dried mullet and other seafood delights, in the restaurants nearby.

Follow the trails behind the beach that lead through the picturesque countryside, which is known for its wildflowers. Enjoy the pleasant weather with cool breezes and a general lack of rain. The area experiences hot summers reminiscent of the Mediterranean region and cold, rainy winters.

Note that the cape was infamous for many shipwrecks in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1936, the Cape Columbine Lighthouse was constructed to help guide vessels and prevent further accidents. Visit the nearby lighthouse, which stands in the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve and is still manned today. Climb to its peak for a spectacular view of the town, the beach and the ocean.

Paternoster Beach stretches along the northern coast of its eponymous village. Many lodges, villas and restaurants line the back of the beach and offer views of the water. Visit nearby attractions, such as the Stone Fish Studio and Gallery, which features fine art by West Coast professional artists.
