"So I was solo traveling for business, and I booked this property because I intended to ride the train into Manhattan instead of taking the rental car.
The hotel is right around the corner from the Jamaica station - very convenient! The thing is, the people who built this hotel decided that whoever stayed there would be riding the train to get around, as the hotel does not have parking onsite. There is however a garage directly across the street that charges $25 a night for valet service - a fair price. This means you have a short walk to the hotel through the neighborhood.
The neighborhood is bad. Trash everywhere, etc. I mean I expected some grit but it was surprising to approach the entrance to the lobby because across the street is an empty lot filled with trash and rubble like a blown out warzone, but hey whatever.
So I check in, staff is fine, the hotel is clean and new looking, scene directly outside, I use the train and come back to the hotel to crash and found the bed very comfy, and the room clean and new looking. The room itself was great.
Whats funny is as I entered the elevator that night, first some other woman emerged, rambling and yelling word salad as she stumbled out the door. I entered the elevator with a woman asked me “oh, donyou know what floor the shelter stops and the private access starts?” I replied “shelter?” to which she informed me she works with NYC shelters and the building is also used as a shelter.
FWIW the breakfast was solid."
