"This was my first time staying at an Intercontinental and I was disappointed in many areas. I booked a classic room with city view but the room faced a building directly across, and the description said a shower/bathub combination but the room only came with a walk-in shower and I needed to switch. After filing a complaint I was able to switch rooms at no extra cost. I was looking forward to the swimming pool as it's the reason I wanted to book this hotel, but many families and children were playing in all of the lap lanes with their intertubes and pool toys, and there is no one to monitor the lap lanes. This was extremely disappointing, and they no have designated times for adult lap swim. When I booked the hotel, I paid online but it said $102 due at property, however, when I checked-in I didn't pay this fee and I asked and showed my receipt and they said I was all paid and good to go. I paid a $125/night security deposit, so $375 total for 3 nights, but when I checked out the $102 was deducted from the deposit (for city taxes). I would have liked more clarification regarding this before. I expected a more friendly check-in process to explain the hotel amenities, or location of the pool/gym without having to ask. It was busy but it seemed like they wanted to hurry the check-in process without making a good first impression. Overall it was not a good experience and won't stay again. "

"Good coffee in the lobby 24/7. The hot breakfast was delicious. A great way to start a day on vacation not trying to find a place eat. It’s right in the lobby! Staff was professional, incredibly helpful and kind. Big shout out to John at the front desk. Although not assured with the request, I was able to upgrade our room because he knew we needed this, as we requested and it was accommodated by the time we arrived. The room upgrade made our stay so nice. Having a suite with bedrooms was a game changer. Full kitchen. Large table for enhanced fellowship. The hotel area is In a neighborhood. Didn’t expect that. Folks walking their dogs, pushing strollers and walking out for a meal. Great location for walking to amenities. Although we had to Uber to most places, it was mostly short rides. And I recommend using if needed. Chicago is a wonderful heartfelt city with so many places to see, great food to eat and good people. We can’t wait to come back! We will without hesitation stay at Sonesta ES! "

"Staff was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Room was ready promptly and was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great, and even though it was very busy during spring break, staff did a great job accommodating the crowd by constantly cleaning tables and refreshing food. My only marks against the stay are that the pool was closed one of the days, and the elevators were being worked on, so there was often a line and a wait to use them. But the staff warned us about it upon check-in, so that made it more bearable."
