"I felt comfortable as a solo traveller. But then it was my home town for nearly 40 years. However staff fantastic. I didn't check in until quite late in the day, and was told my room would be in the 1st not grounds floor which I had asked for. But the reason was the lock on my ground floor was playing up and needed a repair. This is a pretty basic hotel though - room large with comfy bed but warm - and if you don't have a room in the hotel itself you are nowhere near the sea - wasn't a problem for us. It's a very busy locals pub though which we were good with but not a tranquil seaside stay. And parking is tricky as need to top up at the off-site carpark at 8am each day. Good breakfast tho!"

"OK Lodge is just a name; what is is is a (nicely) extended and converted terraced house opposite a park; so now a few studio flats, with some common areas. Modern and clean but a couple of issues - like oven not even wired in; no table to eat off; and also whilst we booked for 3 adults and was confirmed; they called to say max was 2 adults & a child and would not refund the extra £50 for the 3rd adult (who couldn't now come of course) and I had to go through Expedia to get resolved. "First time I've stayed at Holiday Inn, what can I say it was great. I didn't want to leave, so much to do in Southend, and the hotel was above standard. From the minute I walked in, until I left my stay was comfortable, peaceful and just what I needed. I will return. Close to a small retail outlet, but it is quiet you wouldn't know.. and handy for the airport."
