"There are many nice aspects of this old hotel -- built in the 50s and 60s on a high cliff 240 stone steps above Playa La Ropa (best beach in the area). Let me say I am an American and this place caters to mostly Mexicans. I did have a great stay, but there are rough spots that people should know about and some that management could fix. First there is zero 'room guide' that would assist those unfamiliar with such things as the AC (that has ~ 6 modes, only 2 of which cool the room). Cable TV (0 streaming -- the wifi was not functional in our room (Room number in high 40s) was difficult to manage - major networks had Spanish overdubs only -- dont come for the TV... ALL of the food service is VERY SLOW. The breakfast guys do ok -- AND you have the cool morning breezes and spectacular view while you wait. The beach snack bar service was SUPER BAD -- very very slow. The Hotel sells Day Passes to non-guests for 400 pesos and they get full credit towards buying food and drinks (so if they order 400 pesos worth of stuff its 'included' -- and the staff cant keep up with the orders... it seems. We ordered a shrimp cocktail (awesome) and a few drinks and it took at least 30 minutes to arrive and that only after we left our chair area and bugged them about our order at the bar there (this is all stuff that should be premade and super easy to serve.. ? wtx) Anyway, the beach is great,calm, sandy ! BYO there. Grounds are a beautiful jungle with birds etc."

"Older property, decent maintenance, everything works and it’s right on the beach. The rooms and beds are a bit dated but for a place to sleep for a night it worked. Not much around in this area."

"This property is a dream. Our room was perfect. The bed was so comfortable and the little kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. We loved starting each day with complimentary morning coffee on our private, ocean view terrace before heading down to enjoy Jesus’ freshly prepared breakfast in the common, outdoor breakfast area. Humberto was a wonderful host and provided us with great restaurant recommendations, arranged taxis for us and helped us negotiate cambi routes to get us where we wanted to go. Finally, the view of La Ropa, the bay and beyond from the upper pool is beyond description. "

"Villas del Vigía had the most amazing view I have come across! Unfortunately, all three beds that were included in the villa were extremely hard, almost rock hard. I mentioned to the person in charge that my mom, who was staying with me, could no longer put up with her back pain and if there was anything they could do (like switch the mattress for example) The reply was “we will see what we can do” and never hear back on that topic again, and a week later we checked out. If you can’t sleep on super hard beds, this is not a good option for you. I’m 35 years old and the hardness of the bed even kept waking me up at night. A few sofa cushions were completely ripped from zipper which I let them know, that way I wouldn’t be responsible for the damage. One stove burner did not work. The refrigerator was leaking water. On the positive, the place was very clean and the view was absolutely amazing."
