"We were aware that the hotel was being refurbished however we were not expecting it to be as dark and dingy and unwelcoming. There were buckets on the stairs for the leaks from the ceiling, plaster falling off walls, a dangerous old lift…. There were only 2 useable sockets in the room which meant the fridge had to be unplugged. There was no hot water for our shower for about 15 minutes. The breakfast for some reason was served a long way away from reception in the ballroom which was fully laid...
"Garden rooms are a much more basic standard than the main house rooms. Staff were helpful and friendly, but difficult to get hold of on check in and for fixing problems. (Air con didn't work properly, bathroom door handle was falling off/only had 1 screw and sink plug jammed shut)"
