Gold was discovered at Walhalla in circa 1862 and was part of the general Victorian Gold rush of the mid 19th century. Once a bustling town of 4000 residents, its now down to 20 permanent residents.

Activities are fly fishing, walking, camping, touring of a still active Gold mine.

Walhalla is experiencing something of a renaissance with a number of new or renovated accommodation houses and is certainly worth a visit.
Walking in a cool temperate rainforest down to the ferny glade on the Little Tarago River. Hearken to the gurgles of an underground river and beautiful lyrebirds amidst the tall Mountain Ashes, mossy granite boulders, and lush green fernery 🍃🌴😊
