The hotel was clean and some things were updated - carpet, pools, entry lobby area. However, doors and room number plaques, pictures on walls, luggage carts were all very outdated. It seemed to be overall a strange mix of old and new that didn't quite balance. The luggage carts were hard to maneuver. Our room had a fridge and a microwave, but no coffee pot or coffee. We had a bar of soap, but no shampoo or conditioner or lotion. I guess I think of coffee and shampoo as basic ameneties. The free coffee provided near the lobby tasted stale and gross. The front desk staff were ok; they said very little and were not overly friendly. Parking lot was icy and minimally salted.
Our biggest issue was the kids waterpark. My boys had a blast and the setup itself was great. It could have used more sitting areas; many people came in and didn't have a place to sit or put their things. Biggest issue was the chlorine - it was HORRIBLY chlorinated. I understand why - its a kids pool - but my eyes burned just from being in the room. My 6 year old started couging and coughed nearly non stop but refused to slow down. Then, he stopped running around almost instantly and wanted to go to bed. Could not stop coughing, and my 3 year old started coughing, too. I had to take my 6 year old to the hospital to rule out dry drowning, because he had 3 of the symptoms of it. Turns out the chlorine is just too much in that small water park. Despite a clean and affordable hotel, we will not be returning.
