Visiting Yoshino Mountain to see sakura, we came to this temple for ascetic monks practicing Shugendo. (Saito goma ritual) This branch of Buddhism is restricted to women. This ceremony, however, was almost all women! Usually, the ascetics walk over the hot coals remaining after the fire. We left before that happened.

Wonderful stay. Lovely kaiseki dinner. The staff were super attentive and friendly. The hot spings were clean and very relaxing after a long day walking and driving. Oh and the view from the room in the morning across the valley was stunning

Good experience - somewhat basic quarters
Great adventure, kids liked it. Room is not perfect, and best for 2-3 people though 4-5 can sleep. We had a good stay. Staff is very friendly and accomodating, 5 stars for them.
