"We upgraded our room from a cosy double to a classic double. The main reason was that the cosy room was located in another building across the road from the main part of the hotel. The staff in the hotel were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was both a choice of continental and cooked and plentiful. We had our evening meal in the Sohe restaurant which is part of the hotel. The food and service were excellent. I would stay at The Cairn again."

"A very tired looking pub and guest rooms. Corridor and stairs to rooms very uninviting and rather depressing. Rooms need updating, painted a dismal grey, paint chipped, silicone in bathroom black and dated furniture, lighting poor and very dim, green light on mirror over sink that illuminated the whole room through the night I had to sleep with an eye mask on (the sink and mirror were in the bedroom)! Tea and coffee in room. Quite noisy from the main road traffic just outside the hotel most of the night. Food in pub and breakfast were ok. Staff friendly and a perfect location if visiting the Freeman Hospital. Easy parking "
