"Food poisoning the first night, rooms hotter than the sun, zero water pressure in the bathrooms. Constantly chasing staff for the most simple things. They ran out of ice. No fans for the rooms. No one collecting glasses or emptying an ash tray. Asked for a coffee in the morning and waited 15 minutes.. got up to ask where it was "oh i couldn't find you" yeah because you were in the kitchen flirting with the chef.. Could be such a wonderful place, if the staff weren't recreating Fawlty Towers"

"Nice spacious room and well appointed. Stuart was very welcoming and outlined the facilities available. As well as in-room coffee & tea facilities there's fresh milk and sodas in a fridge in the lounge. There's an optional continental breakfast which is delivered to your door at a time of your choosing in the morning and can be enjoyed in-room, in the lounge or in the garden. Alternatively, if you prefer a cooked breakfast, there are a couple of nearby cafes recommended."

"Who was contemporary and nicely designed? The room was extremely hot. No air conditioning 80° plus. I asked them to fix the air conditioner. They told me that they couldn’t do anything about it, and they offered to give me another fan but we already had two fans in the room. I don’t think that room was worth $280. Very disappointing."

"Considering this is a bed and breakfast establishment, it is excellent. We stayed in a twin room and the beds were very comfortable, with good quality bedding. Good shower, with rain head and normal head, towels were plentiful and soft. All very clean. We did not have breakfast, but the room looked well appointed. Large lounge and reception areas, with a billiard table in one room. All the staff were lovely."

"A good hotel with helpful staff. Breakfast buffet good. Crazy practice of charging hotel guests to park but that seems to be a growing trend. Be honest and include the charge in the hotel costs instead of hiding additional costs."

"Room was really clean and cosy nice. Bar and TVs were great. staff not so helpful my wife asked late staff the way to the toilet and he replied follow the signs ☺️"

"A very lovely, friendly and comfortable hotel. Staff were super friendly. Restaurant food was great. À la carte breakfast was also very good but there was no fruit offered which I was disappointed with. Times were also a little tight from breakfast, dinner, room cleaning and checkout but it was a small hotel so this is understandable. I would definitely stay here again. Thankyou."

"Room was clean, body wash in room was empty on arrival. The air-conditioning was not working properly. It was a hotel wide issue. Room was super hot. They were aware of the issues ahead of time and didn’t say anything if that’s the reason you’re saying I wouldn’t recommend it. It was a great place to watch the World Cup."

"Hotel is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Rooms were fine, with enough space and necessary facilities. We needed three rooms, and staff had arranged that they were three adjacent rooms, which was good. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very accommodating - we needed some breakfasts to take away for some of our party who were out running during breakfast service. Evening meal and service in bar were also good, even though it was a busy evening. We would definitely return to the...

"The West Wing where we were staying was beginning restoration. Shortly, but not too sweetly; for reasons I would be happy to list on request, I consider that Management would benefit in reputation from closing the wing till completion, rather than continuing to exploit its present tired mediocrity."

"We had 3 rooms for 2 nights. The rooms were nice but a little on the smaller side for a double. All the rooms had slightly different arrangement. Two of the rooms had a shower in the bath and for some reason one of the rooms baths didn’t drain well, we informed the hotel but they were unable to sort the problem during the stay. We had a birthday celebration and eat in the hotel. Some of the food was excellent however it was not consistent across the meal. The tuna tartar was poor, 5 of us had...

"While this facility had a lot of high level amenities like and Elemis spa, squash court etc, they fall far short of acceptable in basic room accommodations. We specifically made sure the hotel had Air conditioning before booking and when we arrived confirmed again because the lobby was so hot. Even so, they checked us into a room they KNEW the air conditioning wasn’t working (they had put a fan in the room). After a bit of back and forth and waiting for the room to “cool” they agreed to move...

"This is easily the best hotel in Portsmouth- best location, easy included parking out front on. there own grounds. Large, traditional old hotel, but well kept. 24 hour bar for residents. Upmarket restaurant. One major drawback - no aircon in the bedrooms or the hallways stairs etc.: a big problem if you are there during a heat wave -36! - as I was. I would still book again though, but only in cooler weather."

"We stayed at the White Star for only One night and throughly enjoyed it. Great location. Lovely rooms with a comfortable bed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed a dinner & breakfast in the restaurant. Both delicious meals. Highly recommend this place."
