Terrible AI chat bot interface

The new AI chat bot the hotel chain is using is absolutely terrible.It was very frustrating to use and a number of attempts were made to make a recommended table reservation .This proved imposdible and so annoying , time wasting and ineffective that it may make me think twice about staying there again

Good but needs improvement

The hotel was clean throughout and the staff were polite and helpful. The whole place needs renovating though. Our room, especially the bathroom, was dated and felt damp. It was cold in the mornings and we couldn't get the radiator to come on. There is also not much sound proofing throughout the hotel and we could hear every noise inside and out. The location is fantastic though, convenient for getting into Cheltenham without being in the middle of everything and the view is amazing. With some modernisation this hotel could be brilliant but at the minute it is just a good base for Cheltenham if you don't want to stay in the city intself.

We had a fantastic stay at the rising sun, staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location with a stunning view, great amenities in the room and the option of the pub and restaurant downstairs! Would highly recommend.

Key essentials are very good - hot strong shower, comfortable beds. Room decor is in need of some attention, but it is big site and understandably difficult to keep on top of. Not really an issue. Front facing rooms have great views, but road traffic can start early. Otherwise was very quiet. Would recommend.

Has great potential, but fails to deliver

This place appears to be very popular, a great looking place from the outside with great views. When we arrived there was no one at reception, which was expected as the booking stated there was no reception despite there being one. We went to the bar area where the youngster behind the bar said he would get his manager to check us in up at reception, so we returned there and didn't have to wait long for his arrival, this process was straight forward and it wasn't long before we went to our room. The room was ok, pretty much as you would expect from a standard double. We had a table booked so went back to the bar area to be seated. Again we were greeted by a youngster who showed us to our table where he asked for our drinks order. We noticed at the bar that there was a 0% beer on draft so we asked for a pint of that, only to be told that they don't do 0% on draft. I corrected the youngster and we duly received our drinks and had our food order taken. After waiting some time the young lad who took our order returned and said "sorry there appears to have been some confusion, have you had your starter yet?" as all of our cutlery was still on the table clearly we hadn't! When the starters did arrive one of them was wrong and at one point we had 3 starters on the table. Rest of the meal was ok, although the fondant was a failure. Glasses on the table were disgusting, which makes you wonder about the ones behind the bar. Would type more but not enough room!

The Rising Sun by Greene King Inns

First time stayed here, nice place, friendly staff, food was great, view of the sunset great. Only negative I would add is just a few areas like some doors or frames need a lick of paint, otherwise defo stay again We stayed here to go to RIAT airshow next day and after visiting Clarkson’s Farm where we met him also

Disappointing

For the price we paid we were very disappointed with our room, although the pub and restaurant seemed nice enough. On a positive note the room seemed clean, and the bed was comfortable. Other than that, however, the room was very basic and very hot. There was no drawer space; walls were bare; no provision for bags; the hot water tap was dangerously hot so could not be used and the cold tap sprayed water everywhere. The stack of cardboard boxes outside our window and the filthy road sign were not an attractive addition to the otherwise great view! It was good to be able to open the window a little, but the heated towel rail could not be turned off which made it impossible to cool the room to a comfortable temperature, even with the fan provided. We understand that prices in this area are higher than elsewhere, but we felt this stay was very poor value for the price charged. We would not choose to stay here again.

Rising Sun was perfect for our one night. We are at the tail end of a 30 day trip and chose Cheltenham because it was close to Sudely Castle and Gardens. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and the bathroom was fine. Bar and restaurant were great and the views were INCREDIBLE. If back in the area I would stay again.
