The Raceby Hotel, Doncaster (South Yorkshire), Part of the AG Collection
4/10 Poor
"The rooms were in a poor state with paint missing and peeled from doors and door frames, with the same dated decor as the previous owners. I also had to go and ask for a bedside table as there were none in my room. Also there was no do not disturb type cards to hang from the doors.
Around the back where my room was, there was cigarette butts and litter between the path and the grass and a strong smell of cannabis, especially in the passage near the stairs.
Definitely not worth the money paid for my stay, and i shall not be using this establishment again."
"the main hotel has no kerb appeal, but it has been looked after. the windows, the bath & some of the outdoor seating could do with replacing but other than that it is a well maintained hotel. has a bar & restaurant, the bar serves a good variety of drinks & bar food menu available too. the room was clean, plenty of towels, pillows etc. There are gaps in the windows where the breeze comes through when it's windy, laid in bed watching the curtains move in the breeze :) the room was not cold because of this though. the food we had in the bar was nice although my other half was sure he had ordered a wrap & only half way through eating it realised it was a panini - not an issue, he still ate it. "
"The hotel is stunning, the decor is superb. Parking is round the back, same side of hotel drive up to memorial and turn left to head round the back.
Staff were lovely although room service was poor and the ohone wasn't answered when we called down. We ate in the restaurant and the phone rang several times and wasn't answer again. Diane on reception did say to call reception if we had the problem again. The hunters chicken panini had quite a sour bbq sauce, the club sandwich was spot on. You do get a mountain of food too, especially the fries. You can also order in from local takeaways but you have to eat it in your room. The beside lights kept blowing and going off but after a while worked again. The water pressure was great and the bath took very little time to fill, it was piping hot too. The shower was perfect and the mirror had a demist part where the sink is which was perfect.
Overall a great hotel, great staff and great amenities, would definitely stay again and would definitely recommend.
There's also a table and chairs in the room and 3 huge windows. You may have to retune the tv, do that when you arrive to save faffing later."
"The host ignored my calls and I was left stranded after calling numerous times, they switched their phone off. I want a refund as I had to book alternative accommodation.
Very disappointed"
